NRG pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the opening day at StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026, defeating tournament favourites MOUZ 2–1 in their first series.
As Cybersport In reports, citing HLTV, the victory allowed the North American team to climb 18 positions in the global Valve Regional Standings.
NRG entered the Counter-Strike 2 tournament as the lowest-seeded participant and faced MOUZ, who were ranked third in the world before the event. Despite the difference in status, the North American side won Cache and Dust2 to complete the upset.
The series began on Cache, where NRG established an 11–6 lead. MOUZ came close to completing a comeback, but NRG held their nerve in the closing rounds and secured the map 13–11.
MOUZ responded convincingly on Inferno. The European team dominated the second map 13–5 and extended its winning streak on Inferno to four matches.
The deciding map was Dust2. NRG took advantage of a disjointed performance from MOUZ and limited their opponents to only four rounds on the CT side. MOUZ attempted another comeback with six consecutive rounds after the break, but NRG regained control and closed the map 13–10.
Nick «nitr0» Cannella finished as NRG’s highest-rated player, recording 50 kills and a 1.15 rating across the series. Michael «Grim» Wince contributed 45 kills, while Håkon «hallzerk» Fjærli ended the match with an even 45–45 kill-to-death record.
For MOUZ, Dorian «xertioN» Berman and Adrian «xelex» Vincze posted the team’s strongest individual numbers. Both players finished the series with a 1.27 rating, but their performances were not enough to prevent the defeat.
The result had an immediate impact on the global VRS ranking. NRG earned 129 points and moved from 51st to 33rd place, significantly improving their position in the competition for invitations to future events. MOUZ lost 31 points and dropped two places to fourth.
The victory also sent NRG into the upper bracket of StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026, while MOUZ were forced into the lower bracket. The tournament features several leading teams, including Vitality, NAVI, FURIA and Aurora.
