Microsoft launches original Xbox games on PC with new backward compatibility program

Microsoft has officially brought original Xbox games to Windows PCs, launching the new Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC initiative. The program begins with four classic titles and represents the first step in the company’s long-term plan to preserve Xbox’s gaming legacy across PC, consoles, cloud gaming and handheld devices.

The initial lineup includes BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. All four games are available through the Microsoft Store and are included with every Xbox Game Pass tier. Players who already own digital Xbox versions will automatically receive PC access through Xbox Play Anywhere.

Microsoft has also upgraded the classic titles with modern PC features, including support for up to 4× resolution upscaling, VSync, enhanced anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, customizable graphics settings, and fullscreen or windowed modes. Xbox has confirmed that Achievement support will be introduced for these games in a future update.

According to Xbox Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald, the new compatibility program is intended to preserve the company’s gaming history while making classic titles accessible on modern hardware. Microsoft says additional original Xbox games will be added over time as the catalog expands.

The initiative extends one of Xbox’s most recognizable console features to PC, further integrating Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem and reducing the barriers between Windows and Xbox platforms.
