G2 Esports have returned to their unconventional style at Worlds 2025. They executed an extraordinary strategy by drafting Caps’ inaugural Anivia and clinched a significant victory against the LPL’s top seed, Bilibili Gaming, in the Swiss Stage.
«We had Poppy locked in, and then we thought, let’s go for the TikTok combo, combining Poppy and Anivia,» Brokenblade mentioned during the post-match discussion. The TikTok combo involves Anivia erecting her wall to section off an opponent while Poppy uses her Heroic Charge ability to slam them into the wall.
Although TikTok users often devise peculiar synergies with League champions, implementing them in high-stakes situations proves to be a different challenge. G2 Esports, famous for their off-meta selections both at home and internationally, have embraced their instinctive play style and are demonstrating enhanced confidence at Worlds 2025.
Hans Sama, the star AD Carry for G2, expressed admiration for Caps during the post-match interview with the commentators. He noted that the Anivia selection allowed them to secure a free Atakhan, which significantly tilted the game in their favor. Despite BLG attempting to use Ryze’s Realm Warp to respond after the Atakhan, G2 successfully capitalized on the opportunity and extended their lead.
Following Fnatic’s exit from the Swiss Stage, Movistar KOI and G2 Esports stand as the only teams from their region still in the running at Worlds 2025. G2 is set to compete against FlyQuest next in a crucial match to secure a spot in the playoffs.
As for BLG, they are scheduled to take on Vivo Keyd Stars in their journey towards the Knockout Stage. The competition will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
