While navigating through Whiteward in Act 2 of Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will encounter a locked mechanism that can be quite puzzling. This aspect of the game isn’t essential to the main storyline, so players won’t receive any guidance on how to unlock it or what secrets it might hold. The following guide provides useful tips on how to locate the key required for the lock in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
How to Unlock the Ornate Lock Mechanism in Silksong
As you progress towards the top of the Citadel, you’ll find yourself in Whiteward. To access the elevator in this area, you will need the White Key, which is located at the upper right section of the Citadel in Songclave. After obtaining the key, you may choose to ring the bell at the First Shrine for a bonus, then head back to the elevator to descend and uncover more of Whiteward. Move through the left passage and you will find a lock mechanism with a keyhole. For now, it’s best to leave this and continue with the main quest until you acquire the Clawline ability from the eastern side of Underworks.
Once you have the Clawline ability, return to Whiteward. Before descending into the lava pit, proceed to the right. Here, you’ll discover a hidden passageway above. If you advance to the left, you will face an enemy and encounter a grapple point where you can utilize the Clawline to cause the Surgical Key to drop. Retrieve this key and return to the lock mechanism to unlock it. This action will open up the area below, leading you into the boss arena of The Unravelled.
The Unravelled Boss Arena and the Rewards in Silksong
The battle begins with a lone enemy, and after defeating it, two additional foes will appear. Subsequently, the boss will enter the fray, bringing only three types of attacks with him. Be cautious, as The Unravelled can inflict significant damage (two masks) if you stand on the spot where he rises from the ground. The boss typically starts with a charge attack, providing you with a chance to strike by jumping and dashing to avoid the attack, allowing you to hit him from behind before he plunges back into the ground.
Upon resurfacing, he may either initiate another charge attack or launch projectiles that you can counter. As you inflict damage upon him, he will begin to produce spears from the ground and then dive once more. Take care; in the later phases of the encounter, he can perform his charge while the spears are still present. Once you manage to defeat him, a Silk Heart will be your hard-earned reward.
