Umamusume Legacy Overview – Understanding Affinity Levels and Stat Benefits

In Umamusume: Pretty Derby, every new trainee has a connection to the predecessors, and picking the appropriate Legacy characters during the initial career phase can significantly boost the performance of your trainee. Legacy bonuses can elevate any Umamusume to elite status right from the start, but creating the optimal Legacy Umamusume is a considerable time investment.

At the onset of each Umamusume career, you must select two Legacy characters that act as your trainee’s «parents.» The choice of these characters will provide additional enhancements to their stats and unlock various abilities based on their lineage. However, the mechanics are more complex than merely adding a few numerical points. Here’s what you need to know about Legacy Umamusume and Affinity scores to set your trainee up for success.

What Are Legacy Umamusume?

Your selected Legacy Umamusume will enhance your trainee’s starting statistics and talents based on the Sparks their Legacies have accumulated throughout their careers. Initial stat bonuses will appear above your trainee’s stats, with blue numbers denoting benefits from Legacy 1 and pink numbers indicating enhancements from Legacy 2.

Aptitudes – such as track type, distance, or racing style – can also be improved by Legacy Umamusume. If any of your trainee’s aptitudes are enhanced based on the Legacies, they will be highlighted in yellow.

Only blue and pink Sparks (stats and aptitudes) impact the initial bonuses at the start of a career. Other Spark types will be relevant in later Inspiration events.

You can strategically use this system to counteract certain weaknesses or develop unique builds that a typical Umamusume may not be capable of achieving otherwise. Always remember that the starting stat and aptitude enhancements are influenced by the Sparks of your chosen Legacy Umamusume, so don’t simply select your top-ranked horse girl based solely on race victories. Spend time reviewing the Sparks in your lineup to identify the best Legacy options for your upcoming career.

What Is Affinity in Umamusume?

Each Legacy Umamusume also possesses an Affinity rating that indicates how well they match with your trainee. There are three Affinity ranks: a triangle, a single circle, and a double circle. A triangle shows the lowest compatibility, so it’s crucial to ensure you have at least a circle when assembling your Legacy ensemble.

The Affinity rating of your Legacy Umamusume affects the chance of passing down Sparks to your trainee. Each career run features two Inspiration events where your trainee visits the Three Goddesses statue and seeks guidance from their Legacy Umamusume. During these events, your trainee gains statistical boosts from any blue Sparks, while there’s also a random probability for other Sparks to activate, providing even more bonuses.

The randomness from Inspiration events is influenced by your Legacy Affinity rating. Higher Affinity increases the likelihood of triggering pink Sparks, leading to further aptitude improvements, or activating white/green Sparks for additional bonuses like skill hints and stat enhancements. Well-matched Legacy characters can turn Inspiration events into significant advantages, positioning your trainee ahead of rivals.

Every character has a compatibility rating with others that dictates their impact on Affinity. Typically, Umamusume sharing similar aptitudes and racing styles will show better compatibility than those without common attributes. Keep this in mind when choosing your Legacy Umamusume for your next career venture.
