How to Overtake Shy Guys in an Upriver Race in Mario Kart World

To initiate the Upriver Race, navigate to the specified location shown on your map and drive into the corresponding button. This action will launch the challenge and provide a brief overview of your route. Begin by driving into the water and drifting past the item boxes beneath the bridge to gain a slight boost from releasing the drift while collecting six mushrooms. Use these power-ups strategically, as they are essential for completing the challenge successfully.

Along the route, numerous small islands with rocks will be situated, which are key to achieving the additional speed necessary. When you reach the first island, activate a mushroom boost as you hit the sand, aiming for the rocks. Tap the R Button at the apex of your jump off the rock to do flips and land correctly, which will give you an extra speed boost. If executed correctly, you will catch up to the first Shy Guy as you approach the bridge.

As you make the turn after the bridge, maintain a wide drift to gain another small boost and direct your course towards the island on the right. Repeat the previously used technique to gain speed over the sand and jump off a rock as you head toward the final island.

The last island has a longer expanse of sand leading to the launch rock, so you will require two mushrooms to maintain your speed. Activate the second mushroom just as the first one wears off, then take off from the rock and aim for the goal. Use any remaining boosts to reach the finish line swiftly, ensuring you hit the target just in time.
