Public matchmaking has officially been launched. Although detailed patch notes are not available at this moment due to the open beta, here’s everything essential regarding R.E.P.O.‘s inaugural major update.

R.E.P.O. update summary

New Features

The standout addition in this update is the expansive Museum of Human Art. This space boasts larger rooms, which can make avoiding monsters a challenge but also allows for easier navigation. It minimizes the risk of getting lost or misplacing Extraction Points.

The layout of the museum consists mostly of open spaces with multiple levels, especially early in the game. Cover is scarce within this environment, so players must come equipped and be prepared to think on their feet to achieve successful extractions.

New Weapons and Items

The update introduces eight new items and two upgrades. Additionally, the Stun Mine has been renamed to Trapzap. Here’s a brief overview of the new features:

Item Cost Function
Duck Bucket $6-7K This unique item, found in the secret shop, cannot harm enemies. It temporarily immobilizes the apex predator by causing it to waddle slowly when dropped over it.
Pulse Pistol $15-16K This compact weapon delivers a significant knockback effect, briefly stunning monsters and enabling you to escape or attack. It has effective capabilities against various enemies.
Boltzap $17-18K A crossbow that deals minor stun effects and can hit multiple targets in close proximity, offering substantial versatility in combat situations.
Prodzap $28-29K A melee weapon effective for stunning foes, giving a brief opportunity to escape or switch weapons after hitting an enemy.
Cart Cannon $42-44K A cart-mounted weapon with immense power, capable of one-shotting all types of monsters if used at close range.
Cart Laser $42-44K This weapon fires beams dealing consistent damage, but requires careful positioning to maximize its effectiveness.
Photon Blaster $46-48K A handheld variant of the Cart Laser, delivering precise shots with a focused beam.
Phase Bridge $19-20K An energy bridge that allows players to ascend onto higher structures.
Tumble Wings Upgrade $4-5K Enhances flight range while executing Tumble Launch (Q).
Crouch Rest Upgrade $7-8K Boosts the rate of stamina recovery while crouching.

In addition to new equipment, various intriguing valuables can be discovered in the Museum of Human Art, enhancing the gameplay experience. Notable items include a giant crying baby head and a peculiar pacifier, each presenting unique interactions.

Although this update does not introduce any new monsters to R.E.P.O., it offers ample content to provide an engaging atmosphere for returning players. A key aspect of this update is the new Overcharge feature.

Overcharge Feature

The Overcharge system limits the duration players can hold onto monsters. The time required to fill the gauge depends on the specific monster, aiming to counterbalance the previously dominant strength strategy. Overfilling the gauge leads to repercussions, notably the loss of HP.

Weapon Enhancements

While players can still use strength to briefly toss monsters off the map, they must be more strategic as the Overcharge timers fill rapidly with tougher enemies. Fortunately, adjustments to weapon functionalities enhance their efficiency.

Firearms have received significant improvements in terms of both ammo and precision, making them a more viable option for players. Notably, the cost of these weapons at the Service Station has been reduced, encouraging players to utilize them consistently.

User Interface Improvements

The user interface has received a sleek overhaul. The display now provides clear information on weapon charge levels, enhancing gameplay transparency.

Additionally, the sound design has been refined, offering a more immersive audio experience in the game environment, with various new ambient noises contributing to the overall atmosphere of suspense and tension.

Game Balance Adjustments

Balance enhancements have been implemented to vary gameplay experiences, especially during early levels, introducing new elements such as Moon Phases every five levels to increase difficulty.

Players can now regain stamina more effectively when crouched still. Healing items and Energy Crystals are available at team discounts, alongside increased health benefits from the truck in early rounds. Smaller valuables can also provide brief stuns to monsters up to a specified level, making combat dynamics more engaging.

Overall, this update has added a wealth of content to explore during the open beta phase.
