Sony Interactive Entertainment held two back-to-back State of Play presentations on September 3, delivering one of PlayStation’s biggest showcases of the year. Cybersport In reports, citing PlayStation Blog, that the main State of Play was immediately followed by State of Play Japan, with more than 30 games featured across the two broadcasts.
The first presentation focused on upcoming PlayStation releases from developers around the world, combining new game announcements with gameplay demonstrations and release date reveals. More than 30 games were featured across the two State of Play broadcasts..
One of the biggest highlights was Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Square Enix presented an extended look at the game and confirmed that the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will launch on April 8, 2027. Final Fantasy VII Revelation received a major gameplay showcase during State of Play.
Another major announcement was Until Dawn 2. The sequel to the 2015 horror game was officially unveiled during the presentation and is scheduled to launch on January 28, 2027. The broadcast also featured Metro 2039, with the developers confirming a February 4, 2027 release date and showing console gameplay captured on PlayStation 5 Pro.
Metro 2039 received its first PS5 Pro gameplay demonstration, while Sony also shared updates on a number of previously announced projects and expansions. Gran Turismo 7, for example, will receive its Spec IV update in two parts later this year.
After the global State of Play concluded, Sony immediately switched to State of Play Japan. The second presentation was hosted by Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji and focused primarily on games created by developers from Japan and other parts of Asia.
State of Play Japan put the spotlight on upcoming games from Japanese and Asian studios. The broadcast featured projects from major publishers as well as smaller developers, providing a separate platform for games aimed at both Japanese and international audiences.
The double showcase also included announcements beyond individual games. Sony presented new PlayStation-related products and accessories, including limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense wireless controllers. Sony revealed two GTA VI limited-edition DualSense controller designs inspired by Vice City.
By holding the two presentations consecutively, Sony combined its traditional global showcase with a dedicated look at the Japanese and Asian development scene. The September event provided a broader picture of PlayStation’s upcoming release schedule heading into the final months of 2026 and 2027.
