After a challenging 2025 season, SK Gaming is reportedly looking to start anew by assembling what many are calling a superteam for the 2026 LEC season.
According to a report from Sheep Esports, SK is finalizing a roster that includes some of the most prominent names in the LEC, such as former G2 Esports players Martin «Wunder» Hansen and Mihael «Mikyx» Mehle. This will reunite two players who previously celebrated success by winning the MSI 2019.
Mikyx is transitioning from Fnatic to SK Gaming, while Wunder, who played as a top laner for Team Heretics in 2024, is making his return to the LEC after a year away. Additionally, Adam «LIDER» Ilyasov is set to join the roster as a mid laner, bringing his aggressive gameplay back to the LEC after competing with Jankos and Perkz at The Ruddy Sack last year.
The 2025 season was marked by SK Gaming’s inconsistent performances and a lack of playoff achievements. Following numerous losses and minimal improvement, a significant roster overhaul became necessary. While SK was known for fostering talent and giving opportunities to new players, there appears to be a shift in strategy as the organization seeks immediate results.
In the face of intensifying competition within the LEC, SK Gaming seems committed to re-establishing itself among Europe’s elite by investing in experience and leadership. Duncan «Skeanz» Marquet is anticipated to continue with the team as a jungler following a contract extension, helping to provide some stability during these sweeping changes. The only remaining uncertainty lies in the AD carry position, as no official announcement has been made regarding who will complete the roster.
However, building a superteam comes with its own set of challenges. Historically, organizations like G2 Esports and Team Vitality have found that assembling a superteam rarely leads to success.
