CD Projekt RED is preparing an extensive Gamescom 2026 program, with five consecutive days of REDstream broadcasts from Cologne. The shows will feature game presentations, interviews, special guests and behind-the-scenes content, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is set to become the studio’s main attraction at the event.
Gamescom 2026 runs from August 26 to 30 in Cologne, with Opening Night Live taking place one day earlier on August 25. CD Projekt RED will begin its own broadcasts when the convention opens, with REDstreams scheduled daily from 10:00 to 19:00 CEST.
The format effectively gives CD Projekt RED a parallel digital showcase throughout Gamescom, particularly for fans unable to attend the event in Germany. Alongside game previews, the studio plans to feature interviews, guests and behind-the-scenes stories. A detailed daily schedule is expected to be published when Gamescom begins.
The biggest focus, however, will be Geralt’s return. CD Projekt RED has already confirmed that new information about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past will be revealed during Opening Night Live on August 25 before the expansion moves to the studio’s Gamescom show floor presentations.
Industry attendees and media will have access to guided presentations in the business area from August 26 through August 28. Public presentations will continue in the entertainment area until August 30. CD Projekt has indicated that these are designed as guided demos rather than short hands-on sessions, following an approach previously used for major Witcher and Cyberpunk presentations.
Geralt returns a decade after Blood and Wine
Songs of the Past is particularly significant for The Witcher franchise. It is the third full expansion for The Witcher 3 following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, bringing Geralt back for another major adventure a decade after the game’s previous expansion.
Announced in May 2026, Songs of the Past is being co-developed by CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory, a Polish studio that includes developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The expansion is scheduled for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no last-generation console release planned.
The project was at one stage internally considered for a 2026 release. CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski later confirmed that the developers opted for 2027 in order to give the team additional time and deliver what the company considers the best possible final product.
Geralt’s return also arrives during a broader expansion of The Witcher franchise. CD Projekt RED is developing The Witcher 4 with Ciri as its central character, while Fool’s Theory is also working on a remake of the original Witcher. CD Projekt has positioned Songs of the Past as another opportunity to return to the White Wolf before the franchise moves into its next major chapter.
There is still a substantial audience waiting for that return. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now surpassed 65 million copies sold since its 2015 launch and has collected more than 250 Game of the Year awards and over 1,000 industry awards.
Gamescom 2026 will therefore serve two purposes for CD Projekt RED. Its five-day REDstream schedule gives the studio a continuous platform throughout the convention, while Songs of the Past brings its most commercially successful game back into the spotlight. The Opening Night Live reveal on August 25 should provide the first clearer indication of what Geralt’s new adventure will look like ahead of its 2027 release.
