It’s time to dig out your favorite masks and put on your spookiest gear, as the Festival of the Lost has made its way back to the Tower in Destiny 2. This year’s 2025 celebration introduces the exciting new Haunted Altars activity, where players can earn some shiny new weapons.

The Festival of the Lost is Destiny 2’s annual Halloween-themed event, featuring exclusive rewards that are only available for a short period. To ensure you don’t miss out, here’s the timeline for this year’s Festival of the Lost.

Bungie has announced that the Festival of the Lost 2025 will continue for three weeks, concluding with the weekly reset on November 11. The reset occurs at 12 PM CT (not accounting for Daylight Saving Time), and it is advisable to expect some downtime before the reset. This event was originally scheduled for just two weeks, but it has been extended due to complications encountered in the newly introduced Haunted Altars activity.

This extension provides you with an extra week to hunt for new weapons and tackle all challenges for the Ghost Writer title and the event pass. Additionally, this year features six new masks to collect, including designs inspired by Failsafe, Oryx, and Lodi.

What can players expect from this year’s Festival of the Lost?

Unfortunately, some weapons will not be available this time.

In the 2025 edition of the Festival of the Lost, Bungie has replaced Haunted Sectors with Haunted Altars of Sorrow. The Haunted Altars of Sorrow is a cooperative six-player activity that combines elements of the Altars of Sorrow with gameplay from Onslaught. There’s also a Red Rum(ble) PvP mode available, alongside event rewards spread throughout the Portal for those interested in exploring different activities while still securing some great loot.

In terms of rewards, players can look forward to three weapons. Two brand-new additions include Gunburn, a Kinetic SMG equipped with Kinetic Tremors, and Hushed Whisper, a Strand bow featuring elemental perks. Additionally, the Arcane Embrace Heavy Burst shotgun, a favorite from last year, makes a return.

All loot earned from the event drops at a higher tier compared to standard loot gained during regular activities. So if you’ve been receiving Tier 4 drops from the Portal, you can expect to receive guaranteed Tier 5 rewards this time around. Players can also find holofoil variants of the event weapons, adding a touch of flair to their collection.
