In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are destined to explore the Goblin Camp, particularly if they aim to rescue the Tiefling Refugees and locate the missing druid, Halsin. The camp is also a treasure trove filled with valuable loot waiting to be discovered.
As players journey through Baldur’s Gate 3, visiting the Goblin Camp becomes essential for uncovering more about the Absolute and the Mindflayer Tadpoles. Whether choosing to clear out the camp or assist in their attack on the Druid Grove, thoroughly investigating the Goblin Camp offers significant rewards.
Locating the Goblin Camp in Baldur’s Gate 3
To reach the Goblin Camp, players should travel west after leaving the Emerald Grove (starting from the main entrance where the Goblin ambush occurred), passing through the Blighted Village, which leads to the Goblin Camp situated on the western edge of the map.
Once inside, players may face challenges, especially if they wish to free Sazza from Emerald Grove prison. If successful, she can convince the guards to grant the party access. If not, players can either use persuasive skills to get past the guard (possibly needing to use Worg droppings as a disguise), persuade the guard with their Tadpole ability, or engage in combat to prevent the alarm from being raised.
An alternative approach involves sneaking alongside the cliff and utilizing Feather Fall to access the main camp without crossing the bridge. Although the cutscene introducing the Absolute’s Chosen will still trigger, this tactic allows for stealthy entry into the camp.
Navigating the Goblin Camp in Baldur’s Gate 3
Converse with Volo
After getting past the guards, players will discover Volo performing on stage. Engaging with him leads to a scene where he is captured by a Goblin, setting up an opportunity for players to rescue him later, allowing him to join their camp.
Triumph in the Chicken Race
A Goblin by the entrance will mention Chicken Chasing and may invite players to participate. If players have defeated the Owlbear but spared its cub, the cub will replace the lost chicken. To win the race, players can either physically nudge the Chicken/Owlbear towards the goal or employ the «Speak with Animals» spell to encourage it to run on its own.
Players can also trigger the Owlbear version of the Chicken Chase Minigame by visiting the Owlbear Nest, conversing with the Owlbear, and willingly leaving without engaging in a fight–targeted Animal Handling Skill or «Speak with Animals» spell/potion might be required. After resting, Goblins raiding the area might cause the Owlbear to perish, leading to the Owlbear Cub’s presence at the Goblin Camp.
Players can head to the eastern side of the camp to access a Waypoint, facilitating easier travels back to the Goblin Camp. Near this Waypoint, a Goblin named Crusher boasts about his exploits. Players can intimidate him for favor with Lae’zel or terminate him to acquire «Crusher’s Ring,» which bestows enhanced movement. Dark Urge characters will encounter a unique option to bite off Crusher’s toe, but the ring will only be obtainable if he is killed afterwards.
Stimk and Booyahg Piddle
Players can explore further to find Stimk atop the camp, which requires passing a Deception Check (DC: 15) to avoid an arduous battle. Progressing through the camp, they will encounter «Booyahg Piddle,» who can potentially be persuaded to relinquish a book by passing a DC: 10 Intimidation or Persuasion skill check, or by utilizing Illithid Wisdom to force compliance.
Once players wrap up their exploration, it’s time to enter through the main door at the northern end of the camp to access the Shattered Sanctum.
Alternatively, breaking through the wall behind resting Goblins and Hobgoblins in the upper portion offers another entry point to the Shattered Sanctum, allowing for a stealthy approach to the explosive-laden rooms without alerting Roah Moonglow’s group.
Journeying Through the Shattered Sanctum in Baldur’s Gate 3
Overcoming the Guards
Upon entering the Shattered Sanctum, a dialogue with Shadowheart may occur if she is part of the party. Players have the opportunity to engage diplomatically with the guards; using charisma-based skills might allow for smooth passage. Drow characters tend to be waved through without suspicion. If Sazza is present, she can persuade the guards to let everyone pass unharmed. Combat is also an option, presenting a significant challenge for lower-level players.
Encountering Priestess Gut
Progressing through the Shattered Sanctum leads to Priestess Gut, who can grant players the «Mark of the Absolute,» assisting in deceiving cultists regarding the party’s intentions. She also offers to remove the Illithid Tadpole embedded in the characters’ head, which presents a risk as she attempts to incapacitate them with drugs while seeking to chain them.
After Priestess Gut exits, Warlock Greez offers to brand anyone who approaches him, allowing multiple party members to attain the Brand of the Absolute, which could be beneficial in future endeavors.
If players accept her proposal and follow through, she will attempt to subdue the active character through drugs, resulting in a critical escape scenario. Allowing Korilla, an assassin appearing during this moment, to confront Gut provides an opportunity to eliminate her without drawing attention from others within the camp, which is particularly helpful in Honor Mode.
Gut leads the party to a door leading to the Defiled Temple, which includes her chamber and access to a corridor featuring a moon puzzle. Resolving the puzzle will unveil a path into the Selunite Outpost located in the Underdark.
Defeating Priestess Gut affords players her Illithid Tadpole, along with the Absolute’s Talisman and Absolute’s Warboard, enhancing their abilities for future encounters.
Meeting Abdirak, Follower of Loviatar
To the right of Gut’s area, players may encounter Abdirak with another captured adventurer. By enduring his ‘torture’ and succeeding at skill checks, they can receive a buff called «Loviatar’s Love,» providing significant bonuses to attack rolls and saving throws in dire situations.
Freeing Liam
Engaging with the Goblin torturers nearby can provide insight into the ongoing interrogations. Using deception or Illithid powers to clear the area helps free Liam, rewarding players with inspiration for any character with the Folk Hero background.
Unlocking Volo’s Freedom
Once Liam is either freed or interrogated, players must navigate northward past Abdirak’s room to find Volo imprisoned within. Convincing the Goblin named Gribbo to hand over Volo can be achieved through negotiation, intimidation, or bribery. After providing assistance, Volo will agree to join the group at camp.
Confronting Minthara
Moving further north, players will converge with Minthara, who is strategizing a raid on the Emerald Grove. Players can either provide information about the location or eliminate her to prevent an imminent attack, potentially facilitating future alliances or supplying challenges.
Players should be careful, as Minthara is a challenging Drow Paladin. Navigating her vicinity presents opportunities to eliminate her easily by strategically pushing her into a bottomless pit.
Looting Minthara affords powerful items, such as Spidersilk Armor, Boots of Striding, and the unique mace Xyanyde. Forming alliances with her may allow for her recruitment, but helps undermine efforts regarding Halsin the Druid.
Intersecting with Dror Ragzlin
Heading westward leads players to encounter Dror Ragzlin, a Hobgoblin True Soul interrogating a dead Mind Flayer. Players can intervene, but caution is advised so as not to incite combat. Successfully manipulating the interrogation can yield critical intelligence without revealing the party’s presence. However, aggravation risks initiating a battle.
He presents a formidable challenge, but having a rogue positioned above offers a tactical advantage. Players might also use the nearby pit to eliminate enemies swiftly.
Dror Ragzlin wields the formidable Faithbreaker mace, making him a key threat during encounters. A strategic dismantling of his forces can lead to victory.
Defeating Ragzlin often leads to the remaining Goblin Camp becoming hostile, necessitating caution in dealings.
Roah Moonglow, the Merchant
Players may also discover Roah Moonglow in the southwest area of the Shattered Sanctum, presenting valuable items like the Bow of Awareness or Blooded Greataxe. Inside is a stash of explosives with a chest containing additional treasure, and players may cleverly access them without alarming the other Zhentarim by entering from the upper level.
Exploring the Worg Pens in Baldur’s Gate 3
Upon entering the Worg Pens, players will find Goblins troubling a bear. To rescue Halsin the Druid, they must promptly dispatch Goblins to prevent reinforcements and defeat the remaining foes, thus revealing that the bear is indeed Halsin who, upon recovery, will request the elimination of the Goblin Camp’s leaders.
