In the world of «GreedFall 2: The Dying World,» players embark on a captivating regional quest titled «The Mysterious Statuette.» This intriguing adventure begins with the discovery of an Ancient Idol on the corpse of a foreign archaeologist. The quest challenges players to unravel the story behind the statuette, uncover the identity of the deceased, and ultimately determine the fate of the enigmatic artifact he left behind.
The journey starts in the Autumn Forest, where players need to locate the lifeless body of the archaeologist. Positioned in a clearing north of Vigeshvar, the starting village, the body reveals more than meets the eye. Upon examination, players are given insight into the man’s grim demise, as companions discuss the possibility of him being consumed by Lewolans. Among his possessions is the mysterious statuette, an Ancient Idol that raises questions about its purpose and significance.
To dig deeper into the mystery, players should activate tracking mode to identify a nearby dig site. Using a shovel, which can conveniently be found near Minan’s house in Vigeshvar, they can unearth a «Journal Covered in Earth.» This journal sheds light on the archaeologist’s last quest – investigating the tomb of a man named Matheus, hinting that the statuette may be intricately linked to this historical figure.
Further exploration leads to conversations with two key characters: Furkan and Mev, who hold valuable knowledge about Matheus and the statuette. Furkan, upon examining the statuette and the diary, concludes that the archaeologist was likely a scholar from Theleme, suggesting that Matheus may have carved the idol after fleeing to this island. On the other hand, Mev identifies the statuette as a votive offering, possibly created by a local craftsman like Gobannon, while noting that some symbols on it bear foreign elements. Together, they piece together a narrative that suggests Matheus might have been an ancient sage who integrated into native society.
As the quest nears its conclusion, players face a pivotal decision regarding the statuette’s fate. They can opt to bestow the artifact upon either Furkan or the Chief Woodsman residing in the Bridge Alliance’s Fort. Handing it to Furkan yields 350 Experience points and bolsters the player’s reputation with the Bridge Alliance faction. Alternatively, presenting it to the Chief Woodsman during the «Influence in the Council of Renewal» quest enables players to recover a valuable item without resorting to aggression, additionally granting them experience and access to the Sawmill’s Safe.
Regardless of the choice made, completing the quest adds a rewarding mark to the player’s journal, wrapping up this captivating exploration of history, identity, and moral choice in the expansive narrative of «GreedFall 2: The Dying World.
