Completing the Axion Investigation Mission in The First Descendant

You won’t even receive a donut for this challenge.

Season 3, Episode 2 of The First Descendant introduced numerous additional side quests through the Data Analyst in Albion. One of these is the Axion Plains Investigation Mission, which requires players to explore various areas in the Axion Plains.

Below is a comprehensive guide to completing the Axion Plains Investigation Mission quest in The First Descendant.

Locations for the Axion Investigation Mission in The First Descendant

After accepting the mission from the Data Analyst in Albion, you can speak with him again to learn about the outpost investigation. He will provide brief descriptions of the locations you need to explore to assist with your search.

Here’s a list of the areas identified for investigation:

Location near the Tactical Transport Vehicles at the Tactical Camp.
Area surrounding key facilities like warehouses.
Structures adjacent to Mobile Energy Monitoring Point 1.

All these locations are near the outpost at the primary waypoint in Axion Fields. For this specific mission, navigation assistance is disabled, so you must locate all investigation points on your own. Use the hints provided or refer to the accompanying images to help find them more easily.

Location near the Tactical Transport Vehicles at the Tactical Camp

Enter the transport vehicle.

The first investigation point is inside the transport vehicle, adjacent to the Supermassive Receptor dungeon beacon, located right at the outpost. As you approach, an Investigation Point tag will appear on your screen along with a prompt to interact. The text might be slightly hard to see against the background, but it’s situated at the vehicle’s rear ramp.

Vicinity for Key Facilities Like Warehouses

Located right at the entrance.

The next investigation point is found at the entrance of the warehouse, to the right of the Weapon Workbench and Storage Box on the Axion Plains outpost. You must approach the gate with yellow markings to activate the interaction prompt.

Structures Near Mobile Energy Monitoring Point 1

No rush required.

The Mobile Energy Monitoring Point hosts a race activity in Axion Plains. The first race starts directly at the outpost. As you move towards the terminal, you’ll see the activity information, but you don’t have to actually participate; simply select the investigation option.

After completing this, return to the Data Analyst, who will assign the next mission called Lost Recon Team, which involves investigating three additional locations.

Lost Recon Team Locations in The First Descendant

This mission resembles the Axion Investigation Mission, but this time you’ll be searching for data pads around the Wall Crasher arena located in the center of Axion Plains.

Here are the areas you need to explore:

West of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility, near structures by the Mobile Monitoring Point.
East of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility, beneath the Bridge Piers.
South of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility, in the vicinity of the Drainage Facility.

West of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility

A little way down from the teleport.

The first data pad can be found south of the Axion Plains Tactical Mobility Teleporter No. 1, on the western side of the arena. Move south, and just before the large ramp connecting to the main road, you’ll discover the data pad on the ground.

East of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility

Located on the opposite side of the arena.

The second data pad is situated on the eastern side of the Wall Crasher arena. When traveling along the road leading to the facility, there’s a bridge, and underneath it on the far eastern side, you’ll find another data pad to investigate.

South of the Colossus Guided Capture Facility

A short walk is needed to reach this.

The final data pad is located a bit north of the Axion Plains Tactical Mobility Teleporter No. 3, on the south side of the arena. Approach the arena from the waypoint, and to the right, you’ll see a drainage pipe that contains a data pad.

Infrastructure Investigation Locations in The First Descendant

After completing the above missions, return to the Data Analyst, who will present one last quest that requires you to investigate two bridge piers. Although the Data Analyst offers minimal clues this time, there are only two bridges that fit this requirement.

South Bridge Pier

Located right behind you.

The first investigation point is on top of the damaged bridge adjacent to the main outpost. Look for the prompt near the cracks on the bridge. It might be tricky to find due to the small interaction radius, but if you search around, you will locate it.

West Bridge Pier

This isn’t even a pier.

The second point is at the bridge on the west side, southwest from the First Crater mission. While you cannot access the pier itself, there are unfinished support pillars nearby. The investigation point is located on the right side of the third pillar.

Return to the Data Analyst to conclude this series of quests and unlock several record entries in your Journal.
