However, taming this creature can prove challenging without knowing its preferred food. Once you gain its trust, it grants an underwater ability that significantly eases ocean exploration. Continue reading to learn how to tame and breed Nautilus in Minecraft.
How to Tame Nautilus in Minecraft
To begin, players must locate the Nautilus, which can be found in nearly every ocean biome, including Deep Ocean, Cold Ocean, Frozen Ocean, Lukewarm Ocean, or Deep Frozen Ocean. As it dwells beneath the waves, you will need to dive to spot it. Thankfully, its distinctive appearance makes it relatively easy to identify. To simplify your search, consider using a Potion of Water Breathing to avoid the hassle of oxygen depletion.
Once you discover a Nautilus, the next step is to tame it. For this, you will require Pufferfish, a toxic item that is commonly found in various ocean biomes; it tends to spawn more frequently in Lukewarm and Deep Lukewarm Oceans. If capturing a Pufferfish proves difficult, use a fishing rod enchanted with Lure to accelerate your chances of catching fish. Occasionally, you might also obtain Pufferfish by defeating Guardians or Elder Guardians, although this is not a guaranteed method.
After successfully taming a Nautilus, you can ride it for unhindered ocean exploration. To do so, you will need to craft a saddle, which requires three pieces of leather and one iron ingot. Riding the Nautilus grants you the Breath of the Nautilus effect, enabling you to breathe indefinitely while submerged, eliminating the need for a Potion of Water Breathing.
The Nautilus is typically neutral and will not attack unless provoked. If disturbed, it may retaliate with a dash attack.
Additionally, players can breed Nautiluses. Locate two of them and feed them any type of fish to trigger their love mode, soon resulting in the birth of a baby Nautilus.
