Introducing the New Skirmish Game Mode in VALORANT: Key Features, Gameplay Tips, and Additional Insights

The VALORANT ranked mode can often be draining, with players dedicating significant time only to experience minimal RR gains or substantial losses. If you’re seeking a break from the relentless grind and want to blend enjoyment with skill practice, consider trying Skirmish, the latest custom game mode in VALORANT.

The tactical shooter from Riot already presents several unranked modes–including Unrated, Spike Rush, Swiftplay, Escalation, Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, and Custom–for those looking to step away from intense ranked matches and engage in more casual gameplay. However, Skirmish offers a unique twist by allowing players to recreate the classic Replication mode.

Here’s all you need to know about the Skirmish mode in VALORANT.

How to Access Skirmish Mode in VALORANT

Skirmish is incorporated into the Customs mode in VALORANT; it’s not a standalone option. Here’s how to initiate a Skirmish lobby:

  1. Open VALORANT and navigate to the Play tab.
  2. Select the Customs mode and then choose the Mode drop-down menu. Opt for Skirmish and pick one of the three available maps: Skirmish A, B, or C.
  3. Invite friends to your lobby or start solo.

Since it’s a Custom mode, you also have the option to enable cheats: Open Options and toggle the «Enable Cheats» setting to On.

Features and Rules of Skirmish Mode in VALORANT

As a multiplayer experience, Skirmish accommodates up to 10 players in a lobby. You can enter a Skirmish game in various team configurations, ranging from 1v1 to 5v5. While it’s possible to play solo, it is more effective to team up, as winning rounds requires defeating opponents.

There are three distinct Skirmish maps, each designed for high-density combat experiences. Players can usually only utilize weapons to overpower rivals and secure rounds. However, if cheats are enabled, you can also turn on the «Enable Abilities» feature. Expect a chaotic atmosphere on these tightly-conceived maps when both weapons and abilities are in use. Additionally, you can activate options for infinite abilities and magazines.

The most appealing aspect of Skirmish is the revival of the popular Replication mode; there are no limitations on agent selection per team. Therefore, you and your teammates can all select the same agent or experiment with any unique agent combinations. For instance, you may choose to deploy five Omens or mix two Omens, two Brimstones, and one Cloak, depending on your strategy.

The game concludes when the first team to achieve 10 rounds wins, though you can raise the target to 20 or 30 rounds if cheats are activated.

Recommended Agents for Skirmish Mode in VALORANT

Given that Skirmish is a relaxed mode, feel free to select whatever VALORANT agent suits your preferences and enjoy the game as you like. There’s no RR involved, so relish the fun before returning to the competitive scene.

If you’re seeking entertaining suggestions, activate abilities and opt for a Replication-style team composition. One of my most enjoyable matches involved an all-controller setup, leading to endless smokes and a hide-and-seek-like gunfight.

Alternatively, assembling multiple Sages and Cloaks can lead to an intriguing combination of revival and smoke abilities. Or opt for five Yorus and deploy all your clones while pretending to be clones yourself–let the adversary decipher who is genuine.

While you can engage in Skirmish as a 1v1, to fully enjoy the mode, aim to gather at least four players for a 2v2 setup. The ideal configuration is six players in a 3v3 match, ensuring enough action without spiraling into disarray. Having too many players with activated abilities may overwhelm the smaller maps, while too few participants can diminish the excitement.
