Borderlands 4 offers players numerous side missions, including one titled «Null and Void,» which continues the narratives of significant characters after the main storyline concludes. This particular side quest has players helping the Outbounders in their quest to escape Kairos aboard the vessel previously used by Timekeeper’s army. Within this mission, players will need to find the lost pilot, Conway, utilizing their Echo logs to prevent a mishap that could lead to Conway’s demise.
How to Initiate the Null and Void Side Quest in Borderlands 4
The Null and Void side quest becomes available after players finish the sixth main mission, «Rush the Gate,» and defeat Idolator Sol. After overcoming this challenge and ensuring the survival of the Outlanders following an onslaught from the Timekeepers, players should return to Launchpad, where they can speak to Rush.
Rush will outline his plan to utilize the wrecked attack ship to facilitate their escape from Kairos. However, the pilot, Conway, is missing, and Rush will ask players to help locate them. This triggers the Null and Void side quest in Borderlands 4, where players must track down Conway and rescue them.
Locating Conway Using Echo Logs
Once the Null and Void mission is accepted, players must head to Conway’s last known location. The first stop will be the Wreck of the Nostalgia, which is swarming with Rippers, so players should clear them out while making their way toward the quest objective. Conway’s hideout might appear deserted, but the initial Echo Log can be found near the bed.
Next, proceed to the subsequent location where Conway was last seen, which will have another Echo Log in the vicinity of her observation site. This Echo Log will provide insights into Conway’s final whereabouts, leading players to a lair occupied by Rippers. As you approach the location indicated by the quest marker, expect to be ambushed by numerous foes. Navigate cautiously toward the large door to advance in the mission.
Fetch & Deliver the Hangry Ripper’s Takeout Order
The Ripper’s leader, Chugs, will communicate with players through the intercom at the door, mistaking them for a food delivery person. They won’t grant access until players recover the missing food order for the Hangry Rippers. Follow the quest marker to a beach where a delivery vehicle has crashed, scattering takeout boxes across the sand. Collect ten takeout boxes and return to the door to fulfill the Hangry Ripper’s order.
After delivering the items, players will need to place the takeout on a table. However, tension will escalate quickly as the Rippers will turn hostile due to the delayed order, leading to a confrontation with the Hangry Rippers.
Continue battling the Hangry Rippers until the majority are defeated, then head to the back area to discover Conway locked in a cell. Unfortunately, the interaction will be interrupted when a crane arm lifts the cell to a different site, signaling the final stage of the Null and Void quest in Borderlands 4.
How to Rescue Conway from the Void
Chasing the locked cell will lead to a point over a vast void portal, where Conway’s life hangs in the balance. Players must eliminate surrounding enemies and locate the crane controls to lower Conway safely.
A crane situated directly across from Conway’s cell will have an operator ready to engage in combat. The crane operator, Erector Ed, will attack using metal pipes and a ground-pound move if players get too close, so it’s advisable to maintain distance and use ranged weapons such as SMGs or assault rifles to defeat him.
After overcoming the crane operator, navigate around the crane to find a ladder leading to the top. Upon reaching the top, players will need to flip the switch to attempt moving the cage away from the void portal. If it doesn’t budge, they will need to re-route the implosion drive’s power to eliminate the energy sustaining the void portal.
To do this, locate the first valve beside the locked cage and interact with it. Next, players will have to find a second valve to complete the task of energizing the starboard engine.
There is an entrance on the left side of Conway’s cage that leads to the opposite side of the area, where players can find another valve to activate, finalizing the power re-routing to the starboard engine.
Now, climb up to the upper platform on the right and spot a switch on the center console. Flip this switch to successfully disable the void portal beneath Conway’s cell.
Following the resolution of the threat posed by sending Conway into the void, the Hangry Rippers’ leader, Chugs, will confront players. Defeating Chugs is relatively simple; players should look for weaknesses in his shield to inflict damage. Using a shotgun to shoot the orbs that power the shield will cause it to explode.
Once Chugs is defeated, Conway will be freed from her confinement, and the remaining Outbounders will make their appearance as well. This will conclude the Null and Void side quest in Borderlands 4, rewarding players with an SMG, monetary gain, and a unique cosmetic unlock: Vault Hunter Style (Out of Bounds).
