PEAK introduces a new environment known as the Mesa, which is replete with environmental challenges and various troublesome creatures, the most notably hazardous being the Scorpion. While they may be small and move slowly, these creatures can inflict severe poison damage that can disrupt your journey if you aren’t cautious. Once a scorpion approaches, it locks onto the player and delivers a venomous sting. However, with the correct tactics, it’s possible to handle scorpions in PEAK effectively or avoid them entirely.
How to Manage Scorpions in PEAK
Scorpions are exclusive to the Mesa biome, appearing more often during nighttime. Despite their diminutive size, their circular movements make them easy to spot. As one gets closer, it readies its stinger to strike.
The first action you might take is to grab the scorpion and toss it away from you. Approach the scorpion and hit E to pick it up. When you hold it, it prepares to sting, and its stinger will momentarily glow before attacking. To prevent being hit, hold E once more to charge the throw and release it when the charging bar is halfway full to safely toss it before it can sting.
If you do suffer a sting, using an Antidote or the Cure All will help treat the poison damage. These items can be found in luggage scattered throughout the Mesa. If you can’t find these remedies, you can simply wait until the poison effect diminishes.
Cooking Scorpions in PEAK
An alternative approach to dealing with scorpions is to turn them into a meal. Interestingly, scorpions can be prepared for consumption with the correct technique. Rather than placing them directly onto a campfire, players need to use Dynamite to cook them.
When a scorpion is caught in a Dynamite explosion in PEAK, it becomes a Cooked Scorpion, which is an edible item. Consuming a Cooked Scorpion helps replenish hunger, making it a valuable food source during extensive climbs.
Timing is crucial when using Dynamite to cook scorpions, as it ignites when approached. Players have two main strategies: either pick up a scorpion and throw it into an already ignited Dynamite or carefully toss Dynamite directly at the scorpion. There is no alternative method for this.
You don’t have to cook every scorpion you encounter. If you can, cook one to create an additional food resource for surviving in the Mesa.
