CS2 Update on July 28: Fresh Animations, Map Modifications, and Additional Features

Valve has released a new update for CS2, which includes significant changes to weapon animations, various map revisions, and important gameplay and audio enhancements.

As the game evolves with a more sophisticated animation framework, players can look forward to improved visuals and more engaging mechanics in the future. Below is a summary of the CS2 patch notes made available on July 28.

CS2 Update Overview (July 28)

First-Person Animation Revamp Using AnimGraph2

A major feature of this update is the transition of CS2’s animation framework to AnimGraph2. This transition entails a complete rework of the existing content.

With this update, AnimGraph2 has introduced entirely revamped first-person animations. This includes detailed animations for weapon deployment, firing, reloading, and inspection. Additionally, even the chickens in the game have received an animation upgrade. These updates are part of an effort to modernize the game’s visual aesthetics while maintaining the core gameplay mechanics.

Significant Map Modifications

Maps including Inferno, Overpass, and Train–integral to the competitive scene–have undergone important changes in this update.

Inferno, in particular, has seen considerable alterations. The route from Church to Coffins has been redesigned, and windows in the Church facing the B site have been opened, granting Counter-Terrorists better opportunities for retakes. Other adjustments throughout the map include an extended balcony railing on the A site, providing additional cover and movement options.

Overpass has also undergone modifications, especially around the A site. Key angles have been adjusted, and changes to the Heaven railing could influence player strategies for both attacking and defending the site.

Train has received several enhancements favoring the CT side, with new cover locations introduced in the Yard, near the Z area on the B site, and within Upper B Halls. These changes offer defenders greater flexibility when holding or reclaiming bomb sites.

Additionally, Dogtown has been updated to reflect the latest Community Workshop version, ensuring it aligns with recent community enhancements.

Gameplay Improvements and Audio Adjustments

This patch includes a variety of gameplay enhancements designed to improve the overall responsiveness of CS2. Improvements to damage prediction while players are moving and shooting lead to more consistent outcomes during intense encounters.

Shotgun functionality has been refined, ensuring that reloads no longer resume automatically if they are interrupted. Furthermore, the developers have fixed multiple occurrences where players could become lodged in map geometry while surfing, which is a significant quality-of-life improvement for the surfing community.

Moreover, a variety of audio fine-tuning has been introduced to enhance the new animation system. A persistent issue affecting individual player voice volume adjustments has been resolved, providing players with improved control over in-game communication levels.
