After experiencing back-to-back disappointments at the MSI 2025 and the Esports World Cup, T1’s prominent AD carry, Gumayusi, has returned to Korea with a mission–he’s set on seeking retribution against Gen.G.

«GEN has maintained an unbeaten streak since the LCK Cup this year, and their momentum is impressive. We will face them three more times in the upcoming rounds, and I definitely want to ensure they suffer at least one defeat,» Gumayusi expressed during a livestream, clearly eager for a rematch.

Gumayusi emphasizes his strong desire to win, especially with a large number of fans cheering them on. Having faced Gen.G multiple times without a win this year, he feels the time has come to exact revenge. Despite the previous defeats, he remains hopeful of overcoming the team.

With two major tournaments remaining this season, including Worlds 2025 and the LCK Summer Split, the skilled ADC sees an opportunity for T1 to level the playing field. Both HLE and Gen.G have secured two titles already, and if T1 can claim the last two, Gumayusi believes it would balance their record.

Reflecting on T1’s disappointing performance in the EWC 2025 and MSI 2025, he noted that they came frustratingly close to winning the trophy. He mentioned that it would have been easier to accept an earlier exit, but losing after getting so close was particularly painful. For him, MSI represented their «first real opportunity for a title this year,» especially after limited playtime during the LCK Cup and the missed Spring split.

Earlier this year, Gumayusi shared gameplay time with Shin «Smash» Geum-jae during the LCK Cup, which limited his own playtime. However, everything changed when T1’s CEO Joe Marsh became involved and supported Gumayusi’s position as the team’s regular starter.

Looking back, Gumayusi admitted that the challenging schedule had been strenuous. He described the routine as «exhausting» and noted that it seems to intensify with every season. During MSI, he faced unprecedented physical fatigue: «My eyes were bloodshot every morning, and my shoulders were always tense. It was the first time since my training days that I truly felt, wow, I’m really worn out,» he shared.

Despite the year’s physical challenges, he believes that his experience has helped him manage, asserting that maintaining performance is crucial, regardless of fatigue.

This year, Gen.G has been exceptional, completing a perfect 18-0 record in the LCK without losing a series at either MSI 2025 or the Esports World Cup. They successfully defended their MSI title and captured their first EWC trophy, cementing their status as leading forces both nationally and internationally.

T1’s initial match in the LCK rounds 3-5 is against Gen.G today, offering a prime opportunity for revenge and redemption as they approach Worlds 2025.
