Redshirting in College Football 26 is a significant strategy within the Road to Glory and Dynasty modes, particularly if you require additional time to showcase your skills in RTG, or if your team needs more depth at a certain position. However, it’s essential to understand the restrictions associated with redshirting before you decide to implement it. This guide will outline the mechanics of redshirting in both Road to Glory and Dynasty modes of College Football 26, as well as the key limitations involved.
In order to redshirt a player, they must have participated in fewer than four games in a given season and cannot have been previously redshirted. If you are in your Freshman year in Road to Glory, or if your freshman players appear in four games or fewer, they will automatically be redshirted. This policy grants these players an additional season to acclimate, achieve notable plays, reach their potential, and attract attention from NFL scouts.
The Choice is (Mostly) Beyond Your Control
Players will be automatically redshirted if they compete in four or fewer games during their Freshman year. For instance, joining Alabama as a quarterback, I found myself far from starting during my first season, which led to an automatic redshirt. It’s important to remember that top-tier schools with four and five-star rating recruits are usually well-stocked at most positions, meaning it might take some time to get any game time. If it’s challenging to climb the depth chart, considering a transfer to a different college via the Transfer Portal might increase your chances of playing.
Redshirting can also enhance Coach Trust and Satisfaction in College Football 26. After facing several difficulties academically and occasionally mishandling various scenarios during my Freshman year, I realized I had significant ground to cover in the following season. To address this, I chose to dedicate the remainder of that first season to improving my academics, leadership skills, and excelling in practice–thus increasing my coach’s trust and setting the stage for future success.
To initiate the redshirting process in Dynasty mode, navigate to the ‘Team’ tab on the main menu. From there, select the ‘Redshirts’ option to view a list of players who have played four or fewer games this season. Choose the player you wish to redshirt, and confirm your choice by pressing A on Xbox or X on PlayStation.
Remember that even after a player has been redshirted, they can still be called upon to play in games. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure they don’t accidentally play when you don’t want them to, which would nullify their redshirt and count as one of their four years of eligibility for collegiate football.
A player’s name appearing grayed out in the Redshirt menu indicates they are ineligible for redshirting due to having been redshirted once already in their college career.
Be cautious not to redshirt key players with high expectations for playing time. Much like in Road to Glory, they could seek a transfer to a college where they are guaranteed more playtime. Concentrate on redshirting promising prospects on your Dynasty roster who may not yet be ready for significant game involvement, thus managing playtime expectations effectively.
