Players embarking on their journey in Deltarune will begin with the initial chapter. Both the first and second chapters of this game are entirely free, allowing players to determine if they enjoy this experience. As they progress, players will encounter a variety of intriguing characters, some of whom will be allies, while others may be adversaries in combat.
Before players can dive into Chapter 2, they will need to conquer the final boss of Chapter 1, known as the King. Players have the option to engage in battle or choose a pacifist route to resolve their conflict.
Strategies to Overcome the King in Deltarune (Chapter 1)
Upon completing the challenges of Chapter 1, players must confront the King in the final showdown. To initiate the encounter, Kris will have the first opportunity to act. It is advisable for players to select the Act option initially, followed by choosing «Talk» with Ralsei, which will enable the Dual Heal ability for later use.
Players can then proceed to attack using Susie. When Kris’s turn comes around again, opting for «Talk» with Susie will unlock her ability, Redbuster, which inflicts substantial damage. Maintaining an aggressive strategy while utilizing healing options as necessary will help players succeed. After sustaining enough damage, the King will yield, culminating in victory. This encounter, like many puzzles in this chapter, features card-themed attacks.
Spade Rain
The King unleashes several attacks, starting with spade-shaped icons descending from both sides of the screen. The key is to move vertically to avoid damage.
Avoiding damage will help build up your TP for more strategic options.
Spade Arrows
A red line will appear, with a spear-like projectile following it. To evade the arrows, steer clear of the areas marked by these red lines.
Chain Hook
The King will hook a green box, making it move up and down as a pattern of spades emerges from one side. This attack is relatively easier, as players can find a rhythm to navigate through it.
Spike Box
A bouncing box filled with spikes will appear on screen, and players must avoid contact with it while controlling their heart icon.
Hook Box
In this instance, the King will launch a red hook into the box, resulting in a shower of hooks aimed at pulling the box toward a designated direction.
A more challenging variant of this attack has the screen cluttered with spades as well. Players will need to avoid both the hooks and the surrounding spades concurrently.
Is It Possible to Spare the King in Deltarune (Chapter 1)?
Unfortunately, there is no method to change the King’s text color to either yellow or blue. Nevertheless, players can win the battle without resorting to aggression. To achieve this, players should merely endure the fight.
Engaging in attacks is unnecessary; instead, players should focus on defending with all three characters. This strategy maximizes their chances of surviving until the end of the encounter. The dialogue will differ slightly based on the players’ approach to defeating the King, and some light world lore will be revealed. Understanding this lore can enhance the enjoyment of future chapters.
If players begin to incur significant damage during this battle, it’s wise to use an item to recover health and return to a defensive strategy for subsequent turns.
