Rematch has wrapped up its beta tests, and as we gear up for the game’s official launch, the community has put forward some suggestions aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. A significant challenge that players, including myself, are encountering is the issue of participants who camp near the goal solely seeking an easy tap-in, without contributing to the team’s overall effort.
While having a striker is essential for any football team–unless employing a false nine–this five-on-five setup demands both teamwork and effective communication to secure victory. It’s quite frustrating to play with a team at a disadvantage due to goal camping, rather than being short-handed because of a red card.
Nevertheless, the community has been quick to identify this issue, and several members have proposed potential solutions for when Rematch goes live.
Addressing Goal Campers in Rematch
After spending considerable time on the dedicated Rematch subreddit, it’s clear that the community is quite diverse. Some players appreciate the game for its mechanics and gameplay, while others, particularly fans of Rocket League, view it as comparable, if not superior. Additionally, there are football enthusiasts eager for a virtual futsal environment to compete with friends and teams.
This diversity of opinions has led to various discussions and disagreements regarding the game’s style. However, one point everyone seems to concur on, despite different reasons for enjoying Rematch, is the frustration of being paired with a goal camper.
A Reddit user, u/Watashy, proposed an interesting solution to this dilemma. They suggested that instead of enforcing an offside rule that could disrupt the game’s flow, players who remain distant from the action for too long should be given time-outs and temporarily rendered inactive.
A similar approach is already present in the Rush mode of FC 25, which penalizes players for reckless tackles with a blue card. This card forces the player into a time-out lasting 60 seconds, during which they must remain off the field. Implementing a comparable system in Rematch could deter goal camping, adding a strategic layer to the gameplay.
