Former Destiny 2 and Marathon development director Christopher Barrett has announced that his legal dispute with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bungie has been resolved. The parties reached a settlement agreement, although its financial and legal terms remain confidential.
The dispute began in 2024 after Barrett was removed from his position following allegations of inappropriate conduct. Barrett denied the allegations, maintaining that his dismissal was unlawful.
According to Barrett, Sony and Bungie sought to avoid paying approximately $45 million owed under his employment contract. As a result, he filed a lawsuit seeking $200 million in damages.
According to GamesRadar+, Barrett revealed the settlement in a post published on his LinkedIn profile. Neither party has disclosed the specific terms of the agreement.
In a joint statement, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Bungie, and Christopher Barrett confirmed that all legal claims between the parties have been fully resolved. The companies also formally acknowledged Barrett’s contribution to the development of Marathon. His name will be credited in the game’s final credits as the original game director.
The settlement brings an end to the high-profile legal battle between the former Bungie executive and Sony and Bungie, concluding the dispute without any public disclosure of the settlement’s terms.
