It’s no secret that Gold plays a crucial role in Baldur’s Gate 3. While players can find numerous powerful items scattered throughout the game, some of the finest equipment can be purchased from merchants. Generally, the higher the quality of the item, the steeper the price. Although accumulating Gold isn’t overly difficult, managing to gather enough to afford items can be a challenge, particularly at the beginning of the game.
Fortunately, a specific trick exists for players to acquire what amounts to unlimited Gold in Baldur’s Gate 3. To take advantage of this method, simply create a Level 3 Warlock with a precise build. Here’s how you can do it.
How to Obtain Unlimited Gold in Baldur’s Gate 3
This technique requires a Hexblade Warlock to sell a bound Hexed weapon to vendors repeatedly. The Bound Hexed Weapon function ensures that the weapon stays in the Warlock’s inventory forever, making it seem impossible to sell. However, there is a workaround. Follow these steps to exploit this feature:
- Equip any weapon on your Hexblade Warlock.
- Activate the Bind Hexed Weapon action.
- Engage in Bartering with any merchant.
- Select any weapon for your side of the Barter interface.
- Drag that random weapon over your equipped one.
- Click on Balance Offer and Barter to sell your bound weapon.
Ensure you’re Bartering with merchants, as opposed to Trading. To toggle between these modes, look at the top of the vendor’s interface during the buying or selling process and click the appropriate button.
Note that bound Hexed weapons will remain in the Barter menu after being «sold,» allowing you to continue selling them until the vendor’s funds are depleted. Once they run out of Gold, rest for a while to refresh their inventory. You can repeat this process to accumulate as much Gold as needed.
This method can be applied to any weapon of value. However, Pactbound weapons from the Pact of the Blade are worth 0 Gold and cannot be sold. Interestingly, the Shadow Blade can be sold for 30 Gold. It’s advisable to bind a high-value weapon like the Everburn Blade to minimize the number of transactions required with a lesser item.
Since the bound weapon never leaves the Warlock’s inventory, this trick is also an excellent way to improve a vendor’s opinion of you. Simply donate your bound weapon without requesting anything in return, and vendors will offer larger discounts on purchases–although this may not be as impactful given the method already generates substantial Gold.
