Guide to the Broken Strings Quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon
You can embark on the Broken Strings quest once you arrive in Cuanacht following the Shadows of the Horns mission. To initiate this side quest, visit the Harpist’s Tomb, positioned on a mountain near the entrance to the area. Specifically, you will find this location–The Mourning Harpist–just northwest of the Cuanacht Region fast travel point.
Inside the tomb, you’ll encounter two memorial shrines with inscriptions. These shrines narrate the story of two sisters and offer hints on how to access different paths surrounding the chamber. It’s important to note that the left path is available during the day, while the right path opens after sunset.
To kick off the quest, converse with either of the two sisters, Aine or Aideen. It doesn’t affect the quest whom you approach first, but you will need to interact with both to complete the mission.
Exploring the Left Path
If you come during the day, the left pathway will be open. Proceed through it and take the first left leading down the stairs. Keep going until you encounter Aine’s ghost.
Speak with her and select any dialogue option. Two foes will appear: Pride and Greed. Defeat them and talk to Aine again. Navigating through her dialogue will reward you with the quest item Aine’s Ashes, marking the true beginning of the quest.
A chest is located in front of a statue of a girl playing the harp within the chamber. Inside, you’ll find an Origin Stone, a Starborn Egg (Weapon Relic), along with a Health and Mana Potion.
Exploring the Right Path
With Aine’s Ashes now in your inventory, exit the tomb and set up a camp to rest until nightfall. Reenter the tomb, and you will find the right path accessible. Follow it until you meet Aideen. After speaking with her, prepare for a battle with Envy and Wrath. Once they are defeated, converse with Aideen again and go through her dialogue to obtain her ashes.
Burying the Ashes of Aine and Aideen
Once you have both sets of ashes, the final stage of the quest requires you to head to an All-Mother Statue located in the northeastern corner of the map, east of Lord Yvain’s Mansion. You will need to battle some Red Death Infected enemies to reach this destination. Upon arriving at the All-Mother Statue, you will confront a boss named Sir Vaelin.
After defeating him, approach the large tree to the east and interact with it to lay the twins’ ashes to rest, thereby completing the quest.
As a reward for finishing the Broken Strings quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you will earn 2,300 XP. While the XP gain itself may not be substantial, the emotional depth and narrative significance behind the Broken Strings quest make it a worthwhile endeavor for players.
