G2 Esports’ journey in the Esports World Cup 2025 for CS2 came to an abrupt end following a decisive 2-0 loss to Team Falcons in the initial round of the single-elimination event.

After the match, G2’s in-game leader, huNter, discussed the team’s performance in an interview. He noted, «We needed to act with greater decisiveness. We missed several opportunities that were up for grabs, and I believe I could have performed better on the T side,» commented the experienced Counter-Strike player from Bosnia.

G2 found themselves trailing 9-13 on Ancient but managed to start strong on Train with a 6-0 lead. However, Team Falcons retaliated effectively, exploiting G2’s underwhelming performance on the T side.

«We had a 6-0 lead on Train, but then things went downhill from there,» huNter reflected. He also acknowledged feeling hesitant while facing off against his cousin and former teammate, NiKo, at the B site on Ancient. «We were ahead 8-7 on Ancient, but I think we should have focused more on the B side rather than A, though NiKo played well there,» he added.

HuNter emphasized that the key lesson from this defeat was maintaining and capitalizing on a lead. «We failed to leverage our momentum. We had the upper hand on both Ancient and Train, yet we didn’t manage it properly, which allowed Falcons to take advantage of our mistakes,» he explained.

Despite the setback, the G2 captain expressed optimism for future improvements. «We are still adjusting as a new team with various new players and a fresh coach, including myself as a new IGL. We just need to accumulate more experience together as a team to enhance our performance,» he stated.

With G2 now eliminated from the EWC CS2 2025, huNter mentioned he will support former G2 players NiKo and m0NESY from the sidelines as Team Falcons prepare to face MOUZ in the quarterfinals on August 22.
