In response to recent accusations regarding financial instability and delays in repaying debts, Talon Esports has released an official statement acknowledging its financial challenges and pledging to address the issues.
In a post on X (previously Twitter) dated August 27, the Asian esports organization expressed its commitment to transparency, stating that its financial situation has led to «unexpected administrative delays in the distribution of prize funds.»
«We understand that this may be concerning for our players, and we are actively taking measures to resolve the situation,» Talon stated in the post, assuring that all outstanding prize payments to former players would be settled by September 6, with current players to be paid by September 30. «We apologize for the delay and any frustration this may have caused.»
Talon reiterated its strong dedication to player welfare, emphasizing that despite the delays in prize funds, it has fulfilled all salary payments to players in full thus far.
The Hong Kong-based organization also elaborated on its financial situation, mentioning that it is consulting with advisors to ensure «this issue is dealt with based on facts and appropriate procedures.» This «issue» likely pertains to broader financial difficulties, especially in light of its ongoing dispute with a creditor known as Hedgedhog7 on X, which initially highlighted these concerns.
On August 25, Hedgedhog accused Talon CEO Sean Zhang of misconduct, alleging failure to repay a $1 million loan on schedule and not sending a $75,000 interest payment. Zhang attributed the disagreement to «miscommunication» and requested that Hedgedhog retract their accusatory tweet. Hedgedhog, however, rejected this request, stating they were tired of the delays and perceived manipulation.
As of August 27, Hedgedhog reported they were still awaiting the interest payment, although they acknowledged receiving a notification regarding it. Zhang confirmed that the transfer was completed on August 26, and asserted that proof of payment had been forwarded to the creditor. «International bank transfers require time to process, but we provided screenshots of the transaction right away,» he noted, adding that he would refrain from further comments «unless directed otherwise.»
Talon has established itself as a significant player in the Asian esports landscape, fielding teams in various titles, including League of Legends, VALORANT, Dota 2, PUBG Mobile, among others. The organization’s recent predicament raises broader questions about the profitability of the esports industry in 2025.
[Update: 7:30am CT, August 28] Hedgedhog announced that they have received the $75,000 interest payment, effectively concluding their dispute with Talon. In their post on X, they also mentioned that the funds will be donated.
