After spending a significant amount of time at the lower end of the pick rate spectrum, Harbor is finally getting the overhaul he needs with VALORANT Patch 11.10. With enhancements to his powerful abilities, he is now poised to confront opponents more effectively, albeit with some constraints.
Here’s a summary of all the modifications coming to Harbor in the upcoming VALORANT update.
Overview of Harbor’s Revised Abilities
Harbor retains his four abilities; however, they have been revamped to bolster his position as a controller. These adjustments preserve his identity as a pseudo-initiator while introducing notable changes. Below are the details of his abilities post-VALORANT Patch 11.10:
- High Tide: Harbor’s iconic water wall remains, but it is now a standard ability (no longer free) and does not recharge. It functions as before, meaning it still slows all players within its vicinity, including Harbor himself.
- Storm Surge: The previous ability Cascade has been replaced with Storm Surge, allowing Harbor to launch an explosive whirlpool that nearsights and slows enemies caught within the area after a brief delay.
- Cove: This shield smoke has transformed into Harbor’s rechargeable signature ability. It can now be deployed similarly to Omen’s Dark Cover (smoke). Once placed, it acts as plain smoke made of water until reactivated to provide shielding.
- Reckoning: Harbor’s ultimate ability has undergone significant revisions as well. It now functions like Cascade, sending out a large wave of water upon activation. Instead of concussing affected enemies, it slows and nearsights them instead.
You will be able to experience the revamped Harbor starting on Nov. 11, following the launch of VALORANT Patch 11.10.
Our Insights on Harbor’s Modifications in VALORANT Patch 11.10
If you’re curious about the effectiveness of these modifications, the answer is positive; they significantly enhance Harbor’s capabilities. He can now deploy a more traditional dome-like cover for his teammates rather than having to create a wall around chokepoints every 40 seconds. Additionally, the ability to «nearsight» enemies provides him with more options to assist his team in controlling fights and gaining territory.
Notably, the Cove ability has undergone some of the most significant and impactful changes. It can now be placed much like Omen’s smokes instead of the previous throw method. The ability can be deployed without the shield initially, allowing for quick activation of the shield when necessary. This creates strategic choices regarding when to create one-way smokes or shoot through the Cove. Think of him as a more advanced version of Omen who lacks teleportation but possesses a superior ultimate ability.
But does Harbor truly have what it takes to outshine his main competitor, Viper? It might be wise to wait for the rework to be fully implemented and see how the meta shifts before concluding. Nevertheless, this rework gives him the potential to compete closely with her dominance, though expecting him to completely replace her could be overly ambitious.
