Strategies for Conquering Tier 3 in Megabonk and Accessing All Maps and Tiers

The indie title Megabonk, a game reminiscent of Vampire Survivors, has surged in popularity on Steam after surpassing one million sales since its unexpected launch. At the outset, players are limited to two characters and one map, but continued play leads to unlocking additional maps in Megabonk and advancing through three escalating difficulty tiers that open up new areas.

Currently, Megabonk features only two maps, and each map contains up to three stages corresponding to the tier difficulty. This guide outlines how to unlock new maps, advance to higher tiers, and provides strategies for overcoming Tier 3.

Unlocking All Maps in Megabonk

Unlocking Tier 2 & Tier 3 in Megabonk

There are two maps available in Megabonk: Forest and Desert.

  • The Forest map serves as the initial area, featuring a vibrant green landscape dotted with hills and valleys populated by Goblins.
  • The Desert map is flatter and inhabited by enemies like Scorpions and Cacti. While Points of Interest can be spotted from a distance, navigating this area is notably more challenging.

To access the Desert map, players must defeat the Tier 1 boss located in the Forest Map using any character. Each map consists of three tiers, each increasing in difficulty. Upon completing the Tier 1 boss, players can proceed through a portal to enter the second map at Tier 2. Successfully navigating Tier 3 allows access to the third map and culminates in a battle with the final boss in a distinct area.

To unlock new tiers in Megabonk, players must clear the preceding tier first. Initially, only Tier 1 is accessible, and progression to Tier 2 is restricted until the Tier 1 boss is defeated. Afterward, players can replay the level at Tier 2 to access the portal, and after overcoming the boss at that level, they can attempt a Tier 3 run to reach the third stage.

Effective Strategies to Conquer Tier 3 in Megabonk

Overcoming Tier 3 & the Final Bosses in Megabonk

Tier 3 represents the pinnacle of challenge in Megabonk, with formidable enemies that test players’ survival skills, culminating in a confrontation with the final boss. To succeed in Tier 3, players must optimize their build during the initial two stages, ensuring they have the necessary power heading into the decisive battle. Balancing offensive capabilities with defensive measures is critical, as defenses are necessary to withstand the challenges posed by the final bosses found on each map.

Acquire XP & Luck Tomes Early for Rapid Advancement

If you aim to reach Tier 3 and emerge victorious against the final boss, securing both XP and Luck Tomes as early as possible is essential. Maximizing XP gains will hasten your character’s leveling process, while enhancing Luck will improve the quality of leveling rewards.

Provided you can efficiently defeat enemies, prioritize upgrading these two tomes over other potential rewards. If either tome isn’t available among the options during leveling, reroll until you can acquire them, or restart your run for a better chance at success in reaching the final stage.

Ensure HP Regeneration or Utilize Aegis

To beat Tier 3 in Megabonk, players need not only strong offensive capabilities but also robust defenses to tackle the final bosses. At the start of these fights, your character is significantly weakened, introducing several puzzle-like elements that must be navigated with limited resources.

During the initial phases of these boss encounters, establishing a means to regenerate health, mitigate damage, or enhance survivability is crucial. Avoiding damage is practically impossible in these confrontations, and lacking defensive buffs increases the likelihood of an instant defeat.

Among the most effective strategies are focusing on health regeneration and utilizing the Aegis weapon.

  • Since the bosses utilize shields that negate Lifesteal effects, favor HP regeneration if available to sustain your chances in the final boss encounters.
  • The Aegis provides significant damage reduction upon receiving hits and recharges over time, making it invaluable for survival, especially if enhanced to increase projectile count.

Raise Difficulty & Encourage Boss Spawns for Enhanced XP & Treasures

Though it may seem counterintuitive, raising the difficulty in Megabonk can significantly improve your progression during a run as long as you can reliably defeat enemies. A higher difficulty increases enemy health and damage dealt, while also boosting the spawn rate of adversaries.

This increase enhances the amount of XP gathered throughout the run. However, be cautious not to push the difficulty too high; a target of around 40% difficulty is ideal before completing the Tier 1 stage for a reasonable enemy boost.

Capitalize on Your Character’s Initial Weapon & Passive Skills

Each character in Megabonk possesses a distinct weapon and passive ability from the beginning. While players can collect various weapons and tomes, certain upgrades complement specific characters better than others.

For instance, Calcium starts with the Bone projectile weapon and gains damage based on movement speed (which increases over time). Rapid movement renders weapons like Aura or Frostwalker less effective, whereas weapons such as Electric Daggers or Bananas naturally synergize with the bonuses that enhance the Bone’s capabilities.

Take advantage of the unique strengths of your character’s starting weapon and passive ability by selecting bonuses that align with them.

Disable Unwanted Items & Eliminate Poor Choices Early

One effective strategy for enhancing the likelihood of completing a Tier 3 run in Megabonk is customizing which items appear during gameplay. In the Shop, navigate to Items, Tomes, and Weapons to access checkmarks next to unlocked items. By toggling items off, you can increase the chances of finding more desirable rewards in your next run.

This adjustment significantly modifies the randomness of item generation, improving the likelihood of acquiring specified rewards from chests and level-ups. For example, if a character doesn’t benefit from certain weapons, disabling them increases the odds of obtaining more useful equipment.

During runs, avoid using the Banish ability on leveling rewards–almost any combination can lead to success, though some are certainly superior. Instead, use this ability to eliminate unwanted items from chests and Moai statues to refine your reward pool, boosting the chances of receiving more favorable items in future rewards.
