In the vibrant universe of Hytale, fishing has become an engaging activity that enables players to catch, trap, and cook a variety of fish found across lakes, rivers, and oceans. With a wealth of aquatic life available, mastering fishing can turn into an endless source of sustenance when approached correctly.
This guide will explore the various methods players can use to catch fish in Hytale, detailing the advantages and disadvantages of each technique.
The primary method for capturing fish in Hytale is through the use of fishing traps. These craftable devices can be set on the surface of any water body within the game. Once deployed, the traps will autonomously catch fish, valuable treasures, shells, and other underwater items over time. Moreover, fishing traps represent the sole approach to obtaining Salt Blocks in the game, adding to their utility.
Each trap has the capacity to catch one item at a time, requiring players to periodically retrieve their catches to reset the device. By equipping Fishing Bait, players can enhance their catching prospects. Bait not only increases the likelihood of catching fish instead of random junk but also accelerates the trap’s activation time. Normally, traps take approximately 20 to 40 minutes to activate, but with bait, this interval shortens to just 5 to 10 minutes.
Fishing traps can be fashioned at a Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench, making them an accessible tool for avid anglers. The crafting process for both fishing traps and bait includes gathering various materials that can be obtained throughout Hytale.
Interestingly, while fishing rods are not currently part of the gameplay, players can still engage with aquatic life by attacking fish with weapons. However, this approach yields only Raw Fish, and it does not allow for the live capture of fish.
Once caught, fish can be processed into Raw Fish using a Chef’s Stove. The number of Raw Fish players can obtain depends on the fish’s rarity, with rarer species providing more yield. Fish rarity can easily be identified by the color-coded icons in the inventory: common fish are colorless, uncommon ones are green, rare fish are blue, epic fish are purple, and legendary fish are golden.
After converting fish into Raw Fish, players can cook them over a Campfire to create Grilled Fish, a valuable consumable that restores health. The benefits of Grilled Fish include immediate health restoration, health regeneration, and a temporary health boost.
With these fishing mechanics, Hytale encourages players to delve into its aquatic depths, making the art of fishing not just a pastime but an integral part of the survival experience. Whether you prefer the patience of traps or the thrill of the hunt, there’s something for every player willing to explore the bounties of the waters.
