How to Capture Yveltal in Pokemon Legends Z-A: Comprehensive Guide and Best Build

Pokemon Legends: Z-A offers players a variety of activities to explore even after completing the main storyline. To achieve full completion, players must capture Yveltal and other Legendary Pokemon. Included in the extensive collection are the Kalos trio: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. However, there are several steps players must take before adding them to their roster.

Unlike previous iterations, capturing these Legendary Pokemon involves a unique process tied to specific Main Missions. This guide provides all the necessary details for players looking to catch Yveltal, including its optimal moves and stats for battle.

Locating & Capturing Yveltal in Pokemon Legends Z-A

To encounter Yveltal, players must first complete Main Mission 37: Operation Protect Lumiose, followed by viewing the Post-Credits Scene. Once achieved, players will receive a call to Hotel AZ where they can make a Wish as a reward for attaining Rank A in the AZ Royale. The process remains simple until ‘L’ contacts players again while they are back at the Hotel.

L will brief team MZ about The One Who Takes and The One Who Gives. Players must gather with former Team Flare members to uncover more information regarding these two approaching Legendary Pokemon.

The One Who Takes refers to Yveltal. To confront and catch it, players need to connect with Grisham and Griselle at Cafe Noveau. After a discussion, they will direct players to Vinnie at Quasartico Inc. Vinnie will challenge players to battle against a simulation featuring three Rogue Mega Evolutions: Victreebel, Tyranitar, and Staryu. Victory is required to proceed with the Mission.

Before advancing, ensure your Pokemon team is at least level 80, and remember to save your game.

After completing this task, Vinnie and the members of Team Flare Noveau will instruct players to focus on Rouge District’s shopping mall, where Yveltal can be found.

Head to the designated area, then climb the ladder on the shopping mall’s side and traverse the rooftop path until you reach the dome located at the center of the building. Ascend the dome and interact with the ‘!’ icon to initiate the battle against Yveltal.

Yveltal proves to be a formidable opponent, utilizing powerful moves like Oblivion Wing, Dragon Rush, Hurricane, and Phantom Force. Since the battle area is somewhat restricted, Yveltal will maneuver along the edges, which may disrupt certain Pokemon moves due to collisions.

It’s advisable to fight near the center of the dome as much as possible. Once Yveltal’s HP is halved, players will see an arrow pattern indicating increased ‘catchability’. Start using Ultra Balls on it before fully depleting its health.

Once Yveltal is captured, players can adjust its Stats and Moveset. For battling optimization, aim for a Yveltal with a Timid nature (adjustable with mints), which increases Speed while lowering Attack. Focus its EV training with the following distribution:

  • 252 HP
  • 252 Sp. Atk
  • 6 Speed

Utilize Yveltal’s moveset featuring Hurricane, Dark Pulse, Focus Blast, and its signature move, Oblivion Wing, as it serves as a special attacker blending Flying and Dark types. Players can additionally teach it various coverage moves such as Heat Wave and Shadow Ball.
