Among the many challenging tasks found in Hollow Knight: Silksong, perhaps the toughest is gaining all eight Mementos. These tasks test Hornet’s skills to the utmost, demanding high levels of accuracy and effort in nearly every aspect of gameplay. From filling out every entry in the Hunter’s Journal to defeating Seth in the minigames, these activities serve as the ultimate examination of your proficiency with the game’s mechanics.
Hollow Knight: Silksong features eight Mementos meant for Hornet, which can be displayed in her personal space known as Bellhome in Bellhart. The available Mementos include: the Sprintmaster Memento, Guardian’s Memento, Hero’s Memento, Hunter’s Memento, Grey Memento, Surface Memento, Craw Memento, and Heart Memento (one of four types). In this guide, we will explain how to obtain all eight Mementos in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Warning! This guide contains significant spoilers regarding key events in Silksong‘s later stages of gameplay.
How to Obtain the Sprintmaster Memento in Silksong
Beat Sprintmaster Swift:
During Act 3, your mission involves gathering three hearts. As you pursue the Heart of the Wild within the newly accessible northeastern part of the Far Fields, you will confront Sprintmaster Swift. To find Swift, navigate as far east as you can.
At the path’s end, you will find a massive skull that Hornet can enter. Inside, you will face Sprintmaster Swift. Defeating Swift in four foot races is necessary to gather their Memento.
If you meet Swift before finishing the Act 3 storyline, you can only compete in the first three races. This will reward you with a Mask Shard, but not the Memento. To reclaim it, return after completing the main storyline of Act 3, and he will offer you a fourth and final race. Winning that race grants you the Sprintmaster Memento.
The fourth race is identical to the third, except it consists of 6 laps rather than 3. Be sure to utilize your Clawline as much as you can, as it can be the deciding factor between victory and defeat.
How to Acquire the Guardian’s Memento in Silksong
Overcome Shrine Guardian Seth and Gather All Lost Fleas:
In Act 3, you are required to collect various hearts for the Snail Shamans. While pursuing the Heart of the Woods, you will encounter Shrine Guardian Seth directly in your path; he must be defeated to trigger the sequence leading to his Memento.
Additionally, you need to collect all 30 Lost Fleas and establish the Festival of the Flea in Fleatopia, which is the final camping area for the fleas situated near the eastern edge of the Putrefied Ducts. Once you have finished these tasks, you can seek out Seth and obtain his Memento.
Location of Seth 1:
After defeating Seth, he can be found in three locations throughout Pharloom, eventually settling in Fleatopia. The first spot is in Greymoor, located where Shakra was first seen selling the Greymoor Map.
Location of Seth 2:
Seth’s second location is in Shellwood, just east of the ability chamber. From the ability chamber, go east through the lower corridor, and you will find Seth admiring the hanging flowers.
Location of Seth 3:
Upon meeting Seth in Shellwood, he should then move to the Grand Gate, located just before the entrance to the chamber with the large see-sawing platforms. However, many players, including us, observed that Seth did not spawn in that location and went straight to Fleatopia instead. Nevertheless, the Grand Gate is near the second meeting place, so check there to see if he has appeared.
Steps to Acquire the Guardian’s Memento:
After encountering Seth throughout Pharloom, he will transition to Fleatopia, situated in the northeast area of the Putrefied Ducts. Here, you will need to outperform his high scores in each of the three minigames at the Festival of the Flea. If you’ve previously gathered the Pale Oil offered by the fleas, you will already be familiar with these games.
Consulting the high score board near Vog, you will find Seth’s current scores:
- Flea Juggle – 55
- Flea Dodge – 95
- Flea Bounce – 68
In these mini-games, you cannot utilize any Tools or Silk Skills. The only variation will be in your selected Crest. Therefore, opt for the Crest that you feel most comfortable with, as this is vital, particularly for Flea Dodge and Flea Bounce, where Needle Bounce ‘pogo’ attacks are crucial. We found success using the Wanderer Crest in Dodge and Bounce, while utilizing the Shaman’s Crest in Juggle.
After completing each mini-game, speak to Seth once more to receive the Guardian’s Memento.
How to Obtain the Hero’s Memento in Silksong
Interact With Garmond and Zaza:
To receive the Hero’s Memento from Garmond, you must complete a sequence of events that leads to the Hero’s Call wish being available on the Bellhart Wishboard.
Finish the Hero’s Call:
Some players have reported that they could start ‘Hero’s Call’ after multiple encounters with Garmond and Zaza across all three acts, while others claim it did not appear until later on in the game. The optimal approach to guarantee the «Hero’s Call» quest appears on the Bellhart Wishboard is to finish the Old Hearts main quest first and proceed through the Red Memory. Your success in fulfilling the requirements will become evident once you obtain the Everbloom, the item that allows descent into the Void in the Abyss.
Once you begin «Hero’s Call,» securing the Hero’s Memento is straightforward. Go to the Blasted Steps Bellway, where you will find Zaza urgently trying to get your attention. Follow them until they arrive at Garmond, who is now possessed by the Void.
To secure the Hero’s Memento, defeat Garmond in this state.
How to Get the Hunter’s Memento in Silksong
Complete the Hunter’s Journal:
The Hunter’s Memento is one of the easiest to obtain, yet also one of the most time-consuming. To acquire the Hunter’s Memento, you must complete all 234 fundamental entries in the Hunter’s Journal.
The Hunter’s Journal can be obtained by speaking to Nuu at the Halfway Home in Greymoor, located in the small chamber directly above Criege. Talking to Nuu will trigger the «Bugs of Pharloom» quest, which provides you with the Hunter’s Journal and requires you to find 100 bugs.
To accurately track your progress toward completing the Hunter’s Journal, consider obtaining the Farsight item from Weavenest Absalom in the Abyss. This item, when placed in your Bellhome, will reveal various completion statistics, including your status within the Hunter’s Journal.
How to Obtain the Grey Memento in Silksong
Conquer the Watcher at the Edge:
To earn the Grey Memento, you simply need to defeat the Watcher at the Edge, a hidden boss located at the desert’s edge in the Sands of Karak. This boss can only be fought during Act 3 when you have unlocked all major abilities, including Silk Soar.
The concealed passage leading to the Watcher at the Edge can be found in the southwestern corridor, right before returning to the Blasted Steps and the Pintress’ residence. The hidden route is situated just to the left of the «S» in Sands of Karak. You will need to find the hidden seed high up on the wall to reach the Silk Soar point.
From the seed that extends both east and west, continue to the west, following it up the wall until you discover the hidden seed attached to the ceiling.
Strike the seed on the ceiling to create a branch leading your way up. This path will eventually clarify an apparent dead end. However, with Silk Soar, you can access the hidden path. Follow it to reach the Watcher at the Edge.
Initially resembling just another fossilized statue covered in sand, if you play the Needolin for a while, the Watcher will awaken, commencing the boss battle.
How to Acquire the Surface Memento in Silksong
Path of Pain Sequel:
The Surface Memento, as the name indicates, can be found in a concealed area on the surface that Hornet can access by undertaking a challenging platforming section frequently likened to Hollow Knight‘s Path of Pain. While this comparison can be debated, you must indeed complete the challenge to reach the surface.
To begin this concealed path, start Act 3 and return to the Cradle’s peak, where the Grand Mother of Silk fight occurred in Act 2. A secret passageway exists at the top of the chamber leading to this Path of Pain-inspired section.
Upon navigating this path, you’ll find a cave at the top. Enter to embark on the less arduous variant of the Path of Pain.
Once you arrive at the surface, head east until you reach the Nameless Town. There is no map available for this area, so do not rely on that.
After reaching the end of the Nameless Town, you will find the remnants of an ancient structure. Play the Needolin for a brief moment, long enough to produce several lyrics. After pausing, wait a moment, and an item will magically appear and land on the ground. This will be the Surface Memento.
How to Obtain the Craw Memento in Silksong
Find the Craw Summons:
The Craw Memento is relatively easy to locate once you reach the game’s final stages. This quest centers around obtaining the Craw Summons.
To secure the Craw Summons, you must spend some time in the areas around Greymoor, where the Craws reside. This task should also be performed in Act 3. After you meet these conditions, simply rest on any bench; there is a chance that the Craw Summons will manifest. As you settle on the bench, a Pin with the summons will fall from above.
During our playthrough, we received the Craw Summons in Shellwood while resting on a bench situated in the center of a large rectangular chamber on the region’s eastern side.
Once you have the Craw Summons, proceed to the Craw structure located at Greymoor’s eastern edge. Enter via the entrance on the lowest level, then proceed to the southeast corner inside.
There, you will discover a locked door that will accept the Craw Summons. This will open up a corridor leading to a new combat area, where you must defeat several waves of Craw enemies before finally challenging the Crawfather. Successfully completing this encounter will reward you with the Craw Memento.
How to Secure the Heart Memento in Silksong
Finish «The Old Hearts» Main Quest:
The final Memento in Hollow Knight: Silksong directly connects to one of Act 3’s main quests, although it isn’t explicitly named the ‘Heart Memento.’ We refer to it as such because it can take on several forms, but it will always present itself as a heart.
In «The Old Hearts,» the Snail Shamans will instruct Hornet to retrieve three hearts from three ancient bug leaders throughout Pharloom. However, what they do not disclose is that four hearts are, in fact, available. To claim this ultimate Memento, you must possess three of the four hearts when you return to the Snail Shamans. The fourth heart will then materialize as the Memento.
The four hearts you can gather for this task are as follows:
The first three hearts on this list are marked on the quest map, while the Conjoined Heart can be acquired through the Green Prince questline. Upon completing that quest, you will retrieve the Conjoined Heart.
You may then take the Conjoined Heart along with any two of the quest hearts back to the Snail Shamans. The remaining heart will be designated as Hornet’s Memento. If you return carrying all four hearts, they will take the trio of quest hearts, leaving you with the Conjoined Heart as a Memento.
To exhibit the Mementos, purchase the household items from Frey in Bellhart. Upon acquiring a Bellhome and purchasing the Desk, you will be able to display each Memento once you’ve returned home.
