November 21 Updates: Aim Assist Gets a Boost, Drone Pod Takes a Hit, and SMG Improvements Unveiled

On November 21, 2025, the highly anticipated preseason update for Black Ops 7 was rolled out, bringing significant changes aimed at refining gameplay and enhancing the player experience. The developers concentrated on improving aim assist mechanics, adjusting the Drone Pod, and buffing submachine guns (SMGs), alongside various other updates across weapon classes and game modes.

Among the highlights of this patch is a notable buff to aim assist, which sees the minimum rotational aim assist penalty reduced from 35% to 25%. This adjustment empowers controllers with improved long-range aiming capabilities without making the mechanic excessively overpowering. Additionally, the update introduces a more sophisticated system that varies the strength of aim assist based on player input, encouraging more skillful tracking of targets.

Changes to the Drone Pod are also noteworthy. The cooldown period has been lengthened from 2.5 to 3 minutes, limiting its frequency during gameplay. Each drone’s operational time has been shortened from 10 to 8 seconds, and they now deal less damage, dropping from 60 to 50 per drone.

The SMGs have received comprehensive buffs to bolster their effectiveness, especially in mid-range encounters. Key adjustments include an increase in damage range, as well as the introduction of recoil improvements on various attachments. Certain SMGs, such as the Ryden 45K and RK-9, have seen enhancements in their aim-down-sight speeds and recoil management, while overall movement and aiming speeds have been slightly tempered to encourage strategic loadout choices.

Looking at the assault rifles, several have undergone extensive balance changes to better align their characteristics with player expectations. For instance, the M15 MOD 0 now has reduced damage across all ranges but features an expanded maximum damage range. The AK-27 has been adjusted to promote its distinctive high recoil, balancing its output with slower handling. Similarly, the MXR-17 and X9 Maverick received tweaks to improve their handling dynamics.

Marksman rifles like the Warden 308 and M34 Novaline retain their strong damage output, but with increased penalties for mobility and handling, thus necessitating a more tactical approach in combat scenarios. Additionally, light machine guns are experiencing minor enhancements to their aim-down-sight speed and overall management, geared toward enabling longer sustained fire without overheating.

Pistols have not been left out of the adjustments either; they have seen an overall boost while maintaining balance. The Jager 45’s firing rate has been decreased in favor of increased damage, while the Velox 5.7 has been adjusted to require more precise aiming in close encounters.

In multiplayer updates, the user interface has been improved with a larger minimap, and adjustments have been made to scorestreaks. Notably, the Hand Cannon Akimbo Overclock’s capacity has been expanded, and changes have been made to spawn influencer sizes across maps to mitigate poor spawning situations.

Zombies mode also received attention, with challenges and difficulty levels recalibrated for a more engaging experience. Notably, the Ashes of the Damned map has seen a variety of changes aimed at making boss encounters less intimidating while still providing meaningful challenges.

Finally, the co-op campaign has become accessible to all Black Ops 7 players, improving engagement opportunities for the community. This substantial update signifies the developers’ commitment to refining gameplay and providing a continuously evolving experience for their audience. Full details of these changes can be found within the official patch notes released by the developers.
