Major map adjustments are rare in VALORANT, but with Patch 11.08, two updates are being introduced simultaneously, enhancing two underperforming maps to improve competitive balance and player creativity.
This significant update for Season V25 aims to transform VALORANT with transformative changes, most notably for the Abyss and Pearl maps, which have faced criticism for their unbalanced design and gameplay issues.
If you’re curious about the specific adjustments being made, we’ve provided side-by-side comparisons of the modified elements for the Abyss and Pearl maps in VALORANT Patch 11.08.
Map Updates in VALORANT Patch 11.08
The B-sites of Pearl and Abyss have historically favored off-site plays. However, with Patch 11.08, Riot has made the strategy of «planting for main» on these sites riskier and more predictable, while simultaneously introducing new opportunities for on-site maneuvers for both attackers and defenders. Additionally, significant alterations have been made to the Mid section of Abyss to enable faster rotations.
Abyss Map Changes in VALORANT Patch 11.08
This marks the first update for Abyss since its debut in Episode Eight, Act Three in 2024, and it is indeed a long-awaited overhaul.
The previous design saw both defenders and attackers struggle to control the site effectively. Defenders often had to rely on retakes, while attackers depended heavily on lineups and gunplay strategies. The reworks introduced in Patch 11.08 bring about a substantial improvement.

Pearl Map Changes in VALORANT Patch 11.08
Even with prior updates, Pearl’s B-site remained challenging for defenders, who often failed to retake the site against attackers using off-site setups for post-plant scenarios. Patch 11.08 addresses this by eliminating the deep sightline from B Long and modifying cover placements to foster more direct confrontations on-site.

Map Rotation Changes in VALORANT Patch 11.08
<pIn addition to the reworks, Patch 11.08 introduces significant changes in the competitive map rotation. Pearl and Split are set to return, while Ascent and Lotus are being removed from the active rotation–players should prepare their lineups and strategies accordingly.
