This Week’s Ascendant Challenge in Destiny 2: What to Expect

Destiny 2 includes Ascendant Challenges, which are key components of the complex curse affecting the Dreaming City, cycling through a three-week loop.

The intensity of the curse varies, cycling from weak to strong, with each iteration offering numerous treasures for those adventurous enough to enter the Ascendant Plane and seek wealth. There are six Ascendant Challenges that rotate weekly, providing reliable access to Dreaming City loot, such as updated versions of Waking Vigil, Tigerspite, and Twilight Oath.

Completing an Ascendant Challenge grants one piece of Legendary gear per character. Additionally, you can secure an extra reward by engaging with Petra Venj’s weekly bounties. You can stack these objectives, allowing for a total of six weekly bounties, corresponding to each Ascendant Challenge.

Here’s the Ascendant Challenge for this week and how to tackle it in Destiny 2.

What is this week’s Ascendant Challenge in Destiny 2? (Oct. 7 to Oct. 14)

  • Challenge: Agonarch Abyss
  • Location: Bay of Drowned Wishes Lost Sector (Divalian Mists)

How to locate and finish the Agonarch Abyss Ascendant Challenge in Destiny 2

To access each Ascendant Challenge, you will need a Tincture of Queensfoil, obtainable from Petra Venj or located within Dreaming City chests. This buff lasts for 30 minutes and reveals hidden aspects of the Dreaming City.

After consuming the Tincture of Queensfoil, make your way to the Bay of Drowned Wishes Lost Sector, located near the landing zone. Progress through the lost sector as usual and eliminate the initial wave of enemies. Before reaching the barrier that leads to the boss room, look for a Taken portal on your right.

Once in the Ascendant Plane, follow Toland down to the arena. You’ll need to defeat two Taken Wizards while also clearing any blight obstacles to complete the challenge.

How to obtain Dreaming City gear in Destiny 2

With the launch of the Season of the Wish, Dreaming City gear has received updates that keep these weapons relevant. While they aren’t part of the tier system introduced in The Edge of Fate, firearms like Waking Vigil with Voltshot still perform admirably.

The Blind Well remains a strong option for obtaining reprised gear, though its updated power level makes it more challenging to complete. Petra provides weekly bounties that reward a piece of Legendary gear and an Offering to the Oracle for use in Mara Sov’s throne room during stronger curse weeks. You might also find an Ahamkara Bone there if you’re pursuing the Cursebreaker achievement.

Additionally, check Petra’s daily bounties for objectives that reward gear. Completing eight daily challenges, along with Petra’s weekly quest, can yield Dreaming City gear. Like the Ascendant Challenges, these bounties are limited to one per character each week but can be completed more than once across different Guardians.
