Video by Riot Games Use the Interceptor (E) to fire a projectile that can be deployed strategically. When activated, it can eliminate any enemy ability that can rebound off players or be destroyed with bullets. However, it cannot target abilities such as enemy dashes, healing, or most ultimates. The Interceptor is operational for approximately eight seconds and has a cooldown time of 45 seconds after use.
Veto has one free charge of the Interceptor, as it is his signature skill. Note that it is not a stealth option and can be destroyed by foes.
Crosscut (C)
Video by Riot Games
With Crosscut, Veto can establish teleportation vortex anchors on the ground. When within range, players can activate (C) to teleport to a designated vortex anchor. Once set, vortexes can only be retrieved during the Buy Phase.
Chokehold (Q)
Video by Riot Games
Activate Chokehold to throw a «viscous fragment» as a trap in your desired location. When enemies trigger the trap, it automatically ensnares them with tethers, similarly to Fade’s Seize ability. Enemies caught in the trap are silenced and have their health decayed.
Veto can procure just one charge of Chokehold, and enemies can spot and destroy the trap before it activates.
Evolution (X)
Video by Riot Games
Activating Evolution allows Veto to fully mutate, granting him combat stimulation and regeneration. In this state, Veto is completely immune to debuffs and damage from enemy abilities, forcing opponents to rely solely on weapon skills against him.
This ultimate ability requires seven ultimate points to be activated.
Strategies for Playing Veto in VALORANT
Even though Veto is classified as a sentinel, his skills tend to be more aggressive than defensive, making him a hybrid between an initiator and a sentinel. His abilities can effectively secure or reclaim territory in VALORANT , akin to what KAY/O can do but with some defensive elements present.
While I haven’t had hands-on experience with Veto yet, here are some initial tips to enhance your gameplay:
Deploy the Interceptor over site entrances for protection, forcing enemies to divert attention to eliminate it.
Position Crosscuts on high ground or structures to disorient enemies when you teleport unexpectedly. Crosscuts are indestructible.
Change the locations of your Chokehold trap each round to prevent enemies from anticipating its placement.
Remember that Evolution’s strength lies in pushing opponents to engage in gunplay. While it shields Veto, it can also support teammates significantly. Even if your allies don’t get the immunity buff, they can still benefit from your aggressive positioning. Engage as if you’re a duelist, allowing your team to capitalize on the distraction you create.
Veto’s abilities are particularly effective on maps like Bind and Ascent, where confined spaces allow for strategic hiding.

Veto’s full arsenal appears to be well-constructed, but his ultimate, if used strategically, can become exceptionally powerful. It is ideal for breaching spaces or slowing down enemy counter-attacks during post-plant scenarios–similar to KAY/O’s ultimate but with the added benefit of Veto’s immunity.
Generally, Veto seems to possess balanced abilities that shouldn’t require immediate nerfs. His actual influence on the game’s meta will become evident when he enters the field on October 7th.
