The Canadian veteran, now recognized as the first individual in Dota 2 history to secure three TI titles–one as a player and two in coaching roles–has asserted that the organization owes both its players and the broader community an explanation for what has evolved into one of the most debated incidents in competitive Dota.
Aui_2000’s remarks carry significant weight due to his illustrious background. He won TI5 as a player with Evil Geniuses, followed by a coaching triumph at TI11 with Tundra Esports, and recently led Falcons to victory at TI 2025, solidifying his reputation as a unique three-time champion.
Remembering his own experience of being let go from EG shortly after their 2015 championship win, he remarked, «I have never encountered a situation where an organization prevents players from attending TI,» conveying the troubling nature of this development.
The controversy emerged when Valve confirmed that Gaimin Gladiators had announced their withdrawal. Their statement included feedback from discussions with the players, highlighting that they could not reach an agreement that would permit them to compete.
This narrative was swiftly contested when GG’s mid-laner Quinn publicly stated that the organization made a unilateral decision to withdraw from The International, emphasizing that the players had clearly expressed their willingness to compete.
The conflict intensified as more opinions entered the fray. Team Liquid coach Blitz described the situation as potentially «the strangest incident I’ve witnessed» if the accusations were true. Aui_2000, however, escalated his critique, labeling the circumstances as indicative of poor leadership and organizational failures.
