The Madness meter fills up whenever Wuchang dies, when players claim an item from the Invoke tab, or when they use consumables that contribute to Madness.
If Wuchang perishes while the Madness meter is full, a «Madness Descends» alert will appear, and a demon will appear at the site of your death. To remove Madness and recover lost Red Mercury, players must defeat this demon.
This mechanic may initially seem detrimental; however, it can be quite beneficial for players skilled in evasion. If you’re adept at dodging enemy attacks and landing your strikes effectively, utilizing Madness can enhance your offensive capabilities and give you an advantage in battles.
Additionally, certain skills in the Impetus Repository can only be activated once players reach specified Madness levels, such as 50% or 90%.

If you prefer not to engage with the maximum Madness mechanic, there are several ways to clear it in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Here’s how:
- Defeat the Madness Demon: As previously mentioned, the Madness demon appears at the location of your most recent death. By defeating this demon, you will retrieve your lost Red Mercury and reset your Madness to 0%.
- Offerings at the Shu God Statue: Players first encounter the Shu God Statue on the second level of the Shu Sanctum, where they can offer the Divine Gift, Fragment of the Divine Gift, or the Trinity Bell to reduce Madness. These items can be collected while exploring or purchased from Tao Qing or Wu Gang.
