Upon arriving at the Citadel in Silksong, players encounter a more open-ended progression route compared to the first act. If you navigate to the upper right section of the Choral Chambers, you can access a new settlement within the Citadel where the beloved character Sherma will eventually appear.
Sherma does not linger for long. After players discover the Whiteward and subsequently return to Songclave, they will notice that Sherma has gone below to gather medical supplies for his fellow pilgrims, prompting a new quest to locate him.
This guide outlines the steps to complete the Balm for the Wounded quest in Silksong, detailing where to find Sherma and the rewards for rescuing this charming little bug from the dangers of the Whiteward.
How to Begin the Balm for the Wounded Quest
To initiate the Balm for the Wounded quest, you need to unlock Songclave by ringing the Grand Bell located in the upper right corner of the Choral Chambers. Return to this area at a later time to find that it has transformed into a Town hub, complete with a new Wishwall.
Start by collecting the White Key positioned to the right of the Grand Bell, then proceed to unlock and explore the Whiteward region.
When you come back to Songclave, Sherma should appear among the other pilgrims. Speak with him, then leave and return later to find he has departed. Pick up Sherma’s quest from the Wishwall to trigger Balm for the Wounded, then head back to the Whiteward to rescue him.

Where to Locate and Rescue Sherma in Silksong
Enter the Whiteward from the Choral Chambers and sit at the bench to the right side of the initial room to save your progress. Jump down the shaft, and take the first exit on the right instead of going all the way down. Continue along the path to the right, then drop down the hole to land on a trackable object.
Use this object to track Sherma, and follow the trail as it meanders through the Whiteward.
- The path will first guide Hornet to the right through a room filled with large masked enemies wielding scissors.
- Track the second object located on a platform surrounded by spikes in this extended room. This will lead Sherma’s trail further to the right. Avoid the adversaries and continue following the path upwards.
- The trail will lead into a room that Hornet can access. Enter and break the destructible wall on the right side to find Sherma in the Whiteward.
Speak with Sherma, who is trembling with fear after witnessing the brutality and terrifying events unfolding in the Whiteward. He will share that he discovered healing supplies, became trapped, and started hearing unsettling sounds in the dark.
Shortly thereafter, waves of challenging enemies will appear.
- Take down the three flying enemies that use tentacle-like silk strands with your own Silk Skills and Tools, making sure to approach them cautiously as they can be difficult to reach with the Needle.
- Defeat the two scissor-wielding foes by performing pogo attacks (downward strikes in mid-air) while carefully evading their fast and damaging dual-mask attacks.
Rewards for the Balm for the Wounded Quest
Upon overcoming the waves of enemies, you will have successfully rescued Sherma. He will return to Songclave, but not before presenting Hornet with an item he discovered while searching for supplies.
For locating and saving Sherma from the dangers of the Whiteward, he will reward Hornet with a Spool Fragment. This can be combined with another Spool Fragment to enhance Hornet’s maximum Silk capacity by 1 bar.
