The intense competition in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Indonesia Season 16 (MPL ID Season 16) transcends local achievements, carrying the aspirations of an entire region.
In this season, nine of Indonesia’s top teams are vying for two coveted spots at the MLBB M7 World Championship, aiming to reclaim their lost title on home turf. Indonesia was the inaugural world champion at M1, but the Philippines has prevailed in every subsequent tournament.
Indonesian teams are now eager to change that narrative. ONIC, the four-time MPL ID champions, are looking to spearhead this effort, with the powerhouse RRQ Hoshi aiming to follow suit. MPL ID Season 16 Format
The league consists of a regular season followed by playoffs.
Beginning August 22, the regular season features a double round-robin format, allowing each team to compete against one another twice. All matches during this phase are held in best-of-three series, granting one point for each victory while losses result in no points. At the end of the regular season, only the top six teams will proceed to the playoffs.
The playoffs adopt a hybrid elimination system, with teams ranked third to sixth participating in the opening round, which is a single-elimination format. Meanwhile, the top two teams advance directly to the second round, where a double-elimination format begins, offering teams a second shot even after a loss.
Matches in the playoffs are played as best-of-five series, while both the lower bracket final and the grand final are determined through best-of-seven encounters. The top two teams secure their spots at the M7 World Championship.
