BC.Game has made a significant move in its African growth strategy by acquiring two licenses from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) of Kenya.
The licenses, which have been granted to the company’s local branch Blockdance Africa Ltd., consist of a Public Gaming License and a Bookmakers Off-the-Course License. This allows them to operate both their cryptocurrency casino and sportsbook in Kenya.
«Kenya has always been a central hub of gaming culture in Africa. We are thrilled to introduce our platform to the local community and are eager to participate in local sports, technology, and cultural projects as we embark on this journey,» stated a representative from BC.GAME.
BC.GAME Enhances Expansion into Africa with Entry into Kenya
Kenya is recognized as one of the most vibrant gaming markets on the continent, fueled by a high rate of smartphone usage, a strong betting culture, and a rising trend in cryptocurrency adoption. The regulatory landscape, governed by the BCLB, is also considered comparatively stable relative to other areas in the region.
The attractiveness of the market is further bolstered by enhancements in responsible gambling practices. In 2024, the BCLB implemented stricter advertising regulations, increased licensing fees, and reinforced financial protections, including a 30-day prohibition on gambling advertisements aimed at minimizing youth exposure. New regulations require that at least 20% of ad space is dedicated to promoting responsible gambling, reflecting standards similar to those in Europe.
In addition, the Kenyan Association of Gaming Operators (AGOK) has initiated player protection strategies such as time-out options, limits on betting and deposits, real-time notifications, and comprehensive age-verification processes.
This expansion into Kenya follows a challenging period for BC.Game. In November 2024, it was reported that its entities in Curaçao had faced bankruptcy due to disputes with players concerning alleged technical problems. Although the company disputed these allegations, the resulting controversies increased scrutiny on its operations, including a sponsorship agreement with Leicester City FC, which has since concluded.
Subsequently, the company relinquished its Curaçao license in December 2024, citing outdated regulations and inadequate legal protections under the local bankruptcy laws. BC.Game asserted that this decision was a tactical move rather than a financial necessity, introducing the Kenyan license as part of a larger restructuring aimed at enhancing compliance across various markets.
With the acquisition of both licenses, BC.Game is well-positioned to capitalize on Kenya’s growing enthusiasm for online gambling and cryptocurrency betting. However, ensuring adherence to regulations will be crucial as the company seeks to restore its reputation and create a solid presence in Africa’s burgeoning iGaming industry.
Recently, BC.Game has also been announced as the primary sponsor of the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots for the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. In addition to cricket, the brand is also making strides in esports, having signed the renowned Ukrainian player s1mple to its CS2 roster.
