Strange Coins are a unique form of currency found in Destiny 2, distinguishing themselves by being essential for purchasing top-tier items in the game, specifically Exotics. While there are certain limitations, players should prioritize acquiring these coins.
Obtaining and utilizing Strange Coins can significantly enhance your gear in Destiny 2, but earning them can be somewhat challenging. These coins drop from various playlist activities, but given their scarcity, some players may find the farming process frustratingly slow. If you’re one of those players, here are several efficient strategies for quicker Strange Coin farming.
Destiny 2: Strange Coin Farming
As previously mentioned, participating in playlist activities will yield a small number of Strange Coins. If you’re not pressed for time, feel free to engage in whichever Destiny 2 Ritual Activity you prefer. However, if you’re in a hurry to gather enough Strange Coins before Xur departs, consider focusing on the following activities.
Crucible – Mayhem
While not everyone enjoys Destiny 2’s PvP, the Mayhem game mode can be a great option for those seeking to farm Strange Coins. This limited-time mode is included in the Crucible’s weekly rotation, and matches tend to be relatively short, typically lasting around five minutes. Players have access to supercharged abilities, making for a fast-paced experience.
Momentum Control serves as a solid alternative to Mayhem. Matches are quick, potentially less intense than standard Control, thanks to a faster time-to-kill on weapons (though that can be subjective).
Crucible matches reward players with 2-3 Strange Coins based on the match outcome.
Short Strikes
If you aren’t interested in PvP, another effective method to earn Destiny 2 Strange Coins is by completing short Strike missions. Suitable missions include:
- Warden of Nothing
- Fallen SABER
- Devil’s Lair
These Strikes typically take around 10 minutes to finish. Depending on the current Nightfall rotation, you can tackle these missions for a chance to earn Nightfall weapons and other rewards (such as Destiny 2 Nightfall Ciphers). Otherwise, head to the Director screen, select your preferred Strike, and keep farming until you’re satisfied.
Strikes yield 4 Strange Coins upon opening the boss chest at mission completion.
Favor of the Nine Buff
After spending 47 Strange Coins, visit Xur’s More Strange Offers tab to acquire the Favor of the Nine. This grants you the Strange Favor buff, increasing your chance to earn an additional Strange Coin each time you collect one. This effect remains active for 11 days, stacking up to three times, and acquiring Favor of the Nine again will extend both the duration and stack count.
