One of Netflix’s most celebrated animated series, Arcane, is set to return with a physical release of its second season; however, the much-anticipated deleted scenes are conspicuously absent, disappointing fans.

In collaboration with League of Legends‘ creator Riot Games, GKIDS is releasing various 4K UHD and Blu-ray Steelbook editions of Arcane season two, catering to collectors. These editions will feature exclusive original artwork, Anomaly resin dice, posters, pins, and an additional three hours of bonus material reminiscent of season one. While these extras include insights from showrunners and voice actors about the making of the acclaimed series, fans are still yearning for more.

Despite some fans expressing concerns about the show’s pacing, the focus was largely on the missing deleted scenes, particularly an extended intimate sequence featuring Caitlyn and Vi. A petition advocating for the release of this extended cut has garnered over 80,000 signatures on change.org, with the showrunner confirming that it was indeed omitted from the final version.

Additionally, numerous alternative storylines, such as the relationship between Jinx and Ekko, were barely touched upon, as their connection was only explored in a single episode before the narrative returned to the main story. Fans have taken it upon themselves to delve deeper into their relationship through fan comics and fanfiction in hopes of more representation of their shared history and chemistry in the future.

The presence of these deleted scenes could have offered unique story arcs and provided fresh content for viewers to enhance their collection. Exclusive scenes would also serve as a reward for fans who chose to invest in a physical edition of the beloved animated series.

In today’s streaming age, where audiences can easily access Arcane in 4K on Netflix, the physical release needed unique features to attract collectors and devoted fans. Given the lack of substantial extras beyond the standard offering, it’s not surprising that the release has left many in the community feeling disappointed.

Fans can only hope that in the future, Riot and GKIDS will choose to give subsequent Riot animation series the deluxe, complete treatment they truly deserve for collectors.
