ARC Raiders intends to implement adaptable monthly updates to allow for experimentation and refinement of the PvPvE gameplay

ARC Raiders is set to make waves in the extraction shooter scene, offering an engaging environment, challenging AI, and a more user-friendly experience compared to some of the more intense games in the genre.

As anticipation builds for the game’s release on October 30, the ongoing support after launch will be crucial for its success as a live-service title. On October 27, I had a conversation with Aleksander Grøndal, the executive producer of ARC Raiders, regarding the planned content for post-launch, its integration with the game’s developmental framework, and the long-term vision.

In contrast to many live-service games, ARC Raiders will not adhere to a typical seasonal format. The development team intends to provide monthly updates that are meaningful, with the possibility of larger updates occurring several times a year. Grøndal highlighted the importance of maintaining flexibility in their approach while ensuring a consistent update rhythm, allowing room for innovation.

Updates may encompass a wide variety of features, such as community-based events, new items, ARCs, missions, Codex entries, changes to the game maps, and more, according to Grøndal. The team plans to experiment with various ideas in the upcoming months, gather player feedback, and adapt accordingly.

While the specifics are still being refined, Grøndal hinted that substantial content additions, like new maps, could potentially arrive before the holiday season. Additionally, players can expect a short-term roadmap outlining the upcoming features and content in ARC Raiders leading up to Christmas.

Whether you choose to engage in voluntary resets through the recently announced Expedition Project or prefer to explore at your own pace, there will always be something new to experience and progression elements to enhance your journey.

Recently, it was revealed that Embark internalizes ARC Raiders as a title intended for a decade-long lifecycle. A ten-year span for any game is considerable, and without delving too deeply into the far-off future, I inquired about the team’s immediate objectives for the coming year.

The initial year will focus on solidifying the PvPvE foundation, adjusting and refining gameplay mechanics. «I believe there are areas requiring adjustment, some that may need to be altered, and possibly even some elements we could discard,» Grøndal remarked. Subsequently, the goal would be to experiment with new ideas.

Explaining the concept of a decade-long lifespan for ARC Raiders, Grøndal suggested it does not mean the game will remain static for ten years. The game is expected to undergo various transformations throughout its tenure.

«There’s a significant range of possibilities,» he continued. «We have elements of PvE, PvP, the ARC machines, expansive environments, and survival mechanics. Each of these components can be reimagined in diverse ways to craft fresh experiences over time.»

Whether the approach involves revisiting previous concepts, such as when ARC Raiders functioned solely as a PvE game, or diving into completely new territories, including enhanced ARCs, there is immense potential for evolution within the game, provided it retains its core excitement and tension.
