FromSoftware has a notable legacy of games offering multiple endings, often requiring certain conditions to unlock, and Elden Ring Nightreign is no different. Players can achieve four endings in Nightreign: three associated with specific characters and one that can be unlocked by all characters upon completing the final expedition.
Each ending provides insight into the characters and the condition of the world in Limveld, within this constantly evolving version of the Lands Between. This guide summarizes the events of each ending cutscene, including the steps required to unlock each Nightreign ending, and offers context and interpretations regarding their meanings.
This guide contains significant spoilers for all four endings in Elden Ring Nightreign, detailing the final steps of each questline and specifics of each ending cutscene.
The Dawn Ending (Default Nightreign Ending)
In the standard ending cutscene, Nightreign players observe their character ascend a cliff ledge and witness beams of light flowing into Roundtable Hold. These beams intertwine with the environment until a bright light emerges, followed by the credits.
However, there’s more to uncover. If you remain through the credits, you will see another scene involving the Erdtree. The camera sweeps across the Lands Between, accompanied by a glimmering flower petal drifting toward a massive figure made of roots.
This enormous figure looms over not only the Lands Between but also the Erdtree itself. In this concluding cutscene of Nightreign, the figure briefly observes the Lands Between before turning away to walk in another direction.
How To Unlock The Default Nightreign Ending
To reveal the normal ending in Elden Ring Nightreign, you must defeat any four Nightlords to gain access to the Night Aspect expedition, and then take down Heolstor. Completing the Tricephalos expedition grants access to six additional Nightlords. Defeating any three of them allows you to proceed to the final expedition.
Upon returning to Roundtable Hold, present the Nightlord’s Rune to the corpse located at the cliff’s edge to trigger the Dawn ending.
The Ironeye Remembrance Ending
In the secret cutscene for the Ironeye ending, players witness the Ironeye approach the corpse situated north of the Roundtable and swiftly use a curved dagger to slash its throat. Blood from the corpse splatters across the room before Ironeye turns and steps back into the Roundtable’s interior as the camera rotates.
As he departs the frame, Ironeye states, «the Night… is far from over.»
As one of Those Who Live In Death, and drawing from narrative clues throughout Ironeye’s remembrance quest, it can be inferred that he opts to kill the true body of the Nightlord to prolong the Night and shield his kind. While Those Who Live In Death are often ostracized, they maintain a somewhat decent existence as long as the Night persists. Hence, why would he wish to terminate it?
How To Unlock Ironeye’s Secret Nightreign Ending
To access the Ironeye ending in Elden Ring Nightreign, advance through Ironeye’s remembrance questline until tasked with defeating Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow, the final adversary of the Darkdrift Knight expedition. You’ll need to finish the Night Aspect expedition to reach this last chapter of the Ironeye remembrance quest.
If attempting this alone, ensure to equip a bow with the Barrage skill and Lightning affinity, along with a collection of Relics fit for Ironeye.
After defeating Heolstor, collect the Edge of Order. Upon returning to Roundtable Hold, interact with the corpse at the top of the cliff and select the «Clench Dagger» option to view the unique Ironeye remembrance ending cutscene in Nightreign.
The Recluse Remembrance Ending
Within the secret cutscene for the Recluse ending, Nightreign players witness the Recluse cradling what seems to be a spirit infant inside Roundtable Hold. Although no concrete «cutscene» plays for this ending, after a fade to black, a credits sequence follows.
This moment is simple, providing an unexpectedly intimate and poignant scene in a FromSoftware title; however, the lore implications are complex. Many fans agree that the Recluse embraces this baby to protect it, possibly from becoming the next Nightlord.
Various theories circulate regarding the significance of this brief, enigmatic ending. Some speculate that it suggests the Recluse serves as a Deathbed Companion, given her embrace is reminiscent of Fia’s embrace of the player character in Elden Ring.
How To Unlock Recluse’s Secret Nightreign Ending
To unlock the Recluse ending in Elden Ring Nightreign, you must complete all of the Recluse remembrance quests. After reviving the Iron Menial in the Crypt during chapter 6, return to Roundtable Hold and engage in the Night Aspect expedition. After defeating Heolstor, you’ll be transported to a misty version of Roundtable Hold.
Do not interact with the corpse at the cliff’s edge; instead, turn and enter the chamber where you encounter the Dung Eater in Elden Ring, located just south of the remembrance journal. As you approach, you should hear an infant’s cries. Interact with the baby on the bed to view the secret Recluse ending in Nightreign.
The Wylder Remembrance Ending
In the secret cutscene for the Wylder ending, Nightreign players observe Wylder consuming the Silver Tear obtained during his questline next to the body of Heolstor, the fallen Nightlord. Wylder then doubles over and collapses, while the camera shifts to focus on the sandy landscape of the final boss arena.
The camera pans again to reveal Wylder’s sword, and then it continues over the dunes until Heolstor, seemingly resurrected, appears in the distance.
This scene implies that Wylder sacrificed himself to restore the Nightlord, or perhaps adopt Heolstor’s role similar to how players take on Sheogorath’s mantle in the Shivering Isles DLC for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Since the Nightlord’s existence is essential for this iteration of Roundtable Hold to persist, and the Duchess/Priestess is linked to it, Wylder likely decided to perpetuate the cycle by becoming the new Nightlord to safeguard her.
How To Unlock Wylder’s Secret Nightreign Ending
To access the Wylder ending in Elden Ring Nightreign, you need to complete Wylder’s remembrance questline. The quest’s final challenge involves navigating Noklateo, the Shrouded City, to find and defeat a Mimic Troll.
Try to reach at least level 5 (preferably higher) before undertaking this maze-like Shifting Earth event to survive the Astel meteor assaults and defeat the boss effectively.
Upon your return to Roundtable Hold, speak to the Iron Menial for the last time to receive Wylder’s remembrance skin and the Silver Tear relic. Finally, defeat Heolstor, the Nightlord, with this relic equipped, then interact with the Nightlord’s body to watch the unique Wylder remembrance ending cutscene in Nightreign.
