In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima Productions has rolled out numerous enhancements that simplify Sam’s tasks while also enriching the player experience. Unlike the original game where options for gathering crafting resources were limited, in DS2, Sam can now access an array of mines, each yielding specific types of materials. Additionally, a comprehensive monorail system has been introduced, enabling Sam to efficiently transport large quantities of resources. This guide will specifically focus on identifying the mines available in Death Stranding 2 and will provide instructions for unlocking the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy.
All Mines in Death Stranding 2 (& How to Restore Them)
Overall, there are nine mines in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Half of these are larger hubs located centrally along the monorail routes, allowing for the easy distribution of materials to either end of the rail. The other half consists of smaller mines not connected to the monorail, yet often positioned near roadways, making them valuable sources for construction materials.
Here are the mines present in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, along with the materials they provide:
- Smoke Hill Mine (Small) – Ceramics
- Mine North of F1 (Large) – Special Alloys
- Twin Valley Mine (Small) – Chemicals
- Mine North of Tar Lake (Large) – Ceramics
- Mine Near F3 Crater (Large) – Resins
- Northeastern Mine (Large) – Metals
- Savanna Mine (Small) – Special Alloys
- Mine North of F6 (Large) – Resins
- South Edge Mine (Small) – Metals
How to Restore & Upgrade Mines:
To utilize the mines in DS2, players must first restore them. This mechanic becomes apparent early in the game when tasked with restoring the Smoke Hill Mine. Each mine requires Sam to deliver specific quantities of various materials. Large mines generally necessitate Special Alloys and Resin, while small mines seem to only require Special Alloys. After restoration, a mine will yield materials in exchange for Chiral Crystals.
Once restored, a mine can be upgraded twice by adding additional materials used for its restoration. Upgrading enhances the quantity and resilience of materials produced.
As with other major structures in Death Stranding 2, restored mines can be contributed to by other players once connected to the Chiral Network. Even without the required materials, it’s worthwhile to periodically check mines for player contributions.
Smoke Hill Mine:
The Smoke Hill Mine can be found to the north of The Government’s Base and east of the Western Environmental Observatory in southwestern Australia. At level 1, players will pay 800 Chiral Crystals to access Ceramics x960.
Mine North of F1:
Situated on the western coast just north of West Fort Knot, the Mine North of F1 is likely the first large mine players encounter connected to the monorail system. The Inventor is located on a small island directly north of the mine. Once at Level 1, it charges 2000 Chiral Crystals for Special Alloys x4800.
Mine North of Tar Lake:
Located directly east of the Northern Environmental Observatory, the Mine North of Tar Lake is the next mine Sam can restore. At Level 1, it will cost 1600 Chiral Crystals for Ceramics x3200.
Twin Valley Mine:
The Twin Valley Mine, positioned north of the Tar Lake Mine just beyond the Architect, presents a challenge due to its proximity to an enemy camp. By following the road or Auto-Pavers east from the F2 South Distribution Center, players will discover the mine just past Auto-Paver AUS-HIGHWAY-03-04. This smaller mine charges 1200 Chiral Crystals for Chemicals x720.
Mine Near F3 Crater:
On the northern coast, players can find a large crater lake; to the west lies the Mine Near F3 Crater. This mine, at Level 1, charges 1000 Chiral Crystals for Resins x3200.
Northeastern Mine:
The Northeastern Mine is located just beyond the northern edge of the ‘oasis’ area in the northeastern desert, slightly northwest of The Motherhood’s shelter. At Level 1, it requires 1200 Chiral Crystals for Metals x4800.
Savanna Mine:
The Savanna Mine can be found on a small island on the eastern side, placed between the desert to the north and mountains to the south. It is closest to the Ghost Hunter in the southwest and East Fort Knot in the southeast. This small mine requires 900 Chiral Crystals for Special Alloys x2400.
Mine North of F6:
The final major mine, Mine North of F6, is situated along Australia’s southeastern coast. Following the monorail line or track layers south from East Fort Knot will likely lead players to this large circular structure. When located directly south of The Tar Therapist, at Level 2, it requires 1000 Chiral Crystals for Resins x3840.
South Edge Mine:
The last mine in DS2 – South Edge Mine – is directly south of the Southern Environmental Observatory. Players can also follow the roads southwest from South Fort Knot. This small mine is typically found late in the game, serving as an excellent source of Metals for local Auto-Pavers. At Level 1, it costs 600 Chiral Crystals for Metals x1200.
As of now, these nine mines are the only confirmed locations in Death Stranding 2. Should any new discoveries arise, they will be included here promptly.
How to Unlock the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy in Death Stranding 2
To successfully obtain the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy in DS2, players need to restore any three mines; the trophy will unlock automatically. It doesn’t matter whether they are large or small mines, as long as you restore a total of three mines.
